Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Randy a Rock Star

Merger approval shows all is well in America. Corporations and banks run the show and the President and DOJ dance to their tune. Big bonus for Randy. Start of a merger craze. Workers get ready to kiss your jobs, medical, and life goodby. U-S-A!

Well, after the initial down day for the stock, I would expect it to move higher. This merger should be good for the income statement plus the amount of "synergies and expense reductions" (i.e. Layoffs) that can be had. However, AT&T will carry and astounding $249 billion (yes, billion this is not a typo) in debt and will be very vulnerable to the current interest rate increase cycle and a downturn in the economy. This may occur sooner rather than later since we are late in the business cycle. My advice is to milk what you can out of any rally and then sell AT&T before it drops like a rock.

Does Randall still need the legal team from the doj case ? Now that it’s over it seems like we could cut costs and surplus legal at 8 am tomorrow,

In some of the agreements, a surplus notification will be issued if a force imbalance is found in occupational positions. The one I'm reading is Jun 15th, the one after that Sep 14th.

AT&T stock is down in after hours trading. I have a feeling that is in part, the amount of debt that AT&T will be carrying to pay for this merger.

That will increase the impetus to keep costs, like payroll at AT&T very lean. We'll see this Friday.

I get tired of ppl complaining about the merger and loss of jobs or how the company goes about doing business and how the CEO is getting a bonus. Everyone is this business should have seen it coming. Especially at the tech level. Technology is changing and we as workers should adapt like educating ourselves or looking into other fields of work. It s---s but it is what it is.

How soon after the final sale can we start seeing layoffs?

I can really understand the ground for these layoffs. If these 2 companies are merging, they could not have 2 persons in one position, is that right?

I doubt this acquisition will have any more net effect on layoffs except for some at Time Warner subsidiary. Normal adjustments will occur as they have for the last several years.
