Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Can CWA and IBEW stop Rebadging?

For the post 2003 hires, Rebadging is not difficult to do, but for the older hires, can Verizon get away with rebadging Associates if the “new” company also has the same Unions? Hans won’t dance with Shelton and Lonnie the way previous leaders did, and whether it’s rebadging or letting the contract expire in 2019 (assuming the extension doesn’t get finalized), I could see things getting very ugly.

No they can not stop rebadging unless you work in an organized location. You must become organized. Sort of like helping an alcoholic they must want help and work to help themselves before anyone can do any good. If you can get a cohesive group together I am sure then you could then help you.

Hey, @1wqk, I guess we weren’t “high”.

Hey, @1owd, I guess we don’t need to be “scared”.

Hey, @2wka, the next couple, nay, the next few years look to be okay, and protected from uncertainty.

OP, looks like things got pretty. Too bad you missed the dance.

Care to walk any of that back gentlemen (or a single Union-hating troll gentleman). Probably not. You’re no Nostradamus, so I fully expect you to double down on stupid quite soon. Dope(s).

Lowell is retiring but he will still be on the board of directors and Hans will do what Lowell tells him to do.

Wrong....he said he enjoyed the used car salesmen suffering. Sorta like watching a murderer getting the death sentence. Seeing people get what they deserve for their evil deeds. Time to pay the fiddler.

Hans is trying to get rid of customer service and tech reps on both sides. I called verizon comm fios for a customer and the recording encouraged us to ask for tech assurance program. On the wireless side it is called tech coach. This reduces call volume and calls go to an outsource center. We are all in the same boat ... changes are coming and the 10 billion cuts will come from both sides. I remember the last strike and the cwa discovered that verizon com outsourced to the Philippines. So Verizon com outsourced right under the union’s nose. While I am sure the union offers some protection... I don’t think they will protect you from what is coming in the next couple of years.

Got it. So looking for a handout and enjoying seeing people suffer are the answers. What a miserable lot.

I come here to listen to the used car salesmen whine. They want someone to feel sorry for them after making a career out of bilking people out of hard earned money, selling them stuff that they don’t need so that their paycheck will be bigger. It’s like reading a KARMA newspaper. The more they whine, the harder I get.

I don't know about other members but I go on this site for a goof and the slight chance the company will declare a surplus. It would be nice to collect an EISP offer before cashing out. Maybe there might be some pertinent information here?

@igqq the original post is the ignorant ramblings of one with no knowledge of employment law, collective bargaining rules or contract law in general. The OP is referring to the corporate practice of outsourcing departments to a subcontracted company making the employees in said job functions de facto employees of the separate entity, hence the term rebadge. Usually the employment terms are worse largely do to no contractual protections. The company saves money and has no need to pay severance as it technically did not lay off. If they tire of the newly formed group or need less services they work it out with the third party and that company deals with personnel on their own terms, again usually worse than the VZ ones. Those who get laid off by VZ will be undoubtedly better off than those sent to these new subcontractors.

While no one is totally safe from "rebadging" Collective bargaining largely protects against it. Most contracts have succession clauses to deal with the corporate gamesmanship. There are also federal protections against it in ground rules for collectively bargained workplaces. If there was not unionized workplaces would have long ago rebadged anytime people organized. Again you best protection from a "re-badgeing" is to work under a legally binding employment contract. Those that do not are plainly foolish.

Maybe I'm stupid but I don't even know what rebadging is. Was the OP maybe autocorrected? What's rebadging?

@1wqk, I've been hearing that I'm going to be out of a job since the late 80's. Meanwhile I guess I'll just keep building up the pension and 401k. Jealous much??? You can keep drinking the Fox/Limbaugh koolaide or you can realize you've been played like a violin and come over into the real world. I'll bet you wear a MAGA hat with a "Made in China" label in it.

I thought Lowell was to break the union? There was to be no more RBOC, Bell mentality. So what happened? . Instead it seems he broke the company. Perhaps Hans will accomplish your wish, maybe not. After the contract extension we will soon start to hear about the bloodbath to come next time as in every time, except this time it will be different. I guess I will need to concern myself with August 2022 instead of 2019? A two year extension would be August 2021. Well whatever I am sure there is something to worry about somewhere or sometime. If it gets that bad it is best to just retire until then just rack up the cash. What else can one do?

Swedes are largely pro union. All of the Scandinavian countries are. Unions are seen as an integral part of society. These nations also enjoy a superior standard of living relation to that of the average American. I won't say the guy is a prince, but his outlook on labor relations will be much different than that of the typical American in the ruling class.
