Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Follett ADC to close by the end of this Fiscal Year

With Amazon refusing to renew Follett’s lease on the Kiva System and college book sales tanking, The powers that be are running out of options on how to keep their state of the art ADC facility open. They have already begun to shift Follett Virtual Books from ADC to FSS in Woodridge, which is the bulk of ADC’s sales during the rush seasons, have cut Management to less than half of what it was at this time last year, and the morale amongst the workforce, well, there isn’t any. And with horrible investments and bad decisions made during the RG era, it is becoming too expensive to keep the doors open in Aurora and the Follett family and it’s shareholders happy. Get out while you still can because Follett is falling faster than the Hindenburg to its ashes.

A Follett Family member (HEG CIO) was the driver of the Kiva bots (no longer at Follett and fired by MLS). Everyone makes mistakes and when your SR Mgmt, your mistakes cost much more. The issue is when you find out 4 months after your contract (ADC still being built and no BOTS needed for another six months) that Amazon bought Kiva out, you sink the contract and move to a new technology. Similar is the 20 million dollar debacle with the Oracle Point of Sale trying to be rolled out to the stores for the last 5 years. Follett inked the contract...1 month later Oracle announces it is targeting to EOL (end of life) the version Follett bought with no upgrade remediation path. What did Follett management do...double down and spend even more consulting money to write code for a product that is a true POS.

Its really called common sense. Think about how much in sales is needed to cover a 10 or 20 mil spend on a bad decision.

Amazon moved right next store and said, "Move B*tch, Get Out The Way!" Literally. LOL.

It's time kids - GET OUT! Russell is turning over in his grave. :( Sad times at Follett.

If the family was as smart as they think they are, they would have bought Kiva and made Amazon pay them. Instead they bought Baker & Taylor.

Kiva Bot's were not owned by Amazon when FHEG implemented them. Amazon identified buying out Kiva would be instrumental to their future. That's why Amazon is growing and Follett is dying. Go figure.
