Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

How to Ruin a multi Billion Dollar Co in a few easy steps

  1. Buy out remaining 45% of co you already own 55% with cash you don't have.

  2. Buy 20 year old co no none uses anymore with more cash you don't have. ( AOL)

  3. Buy another company with cash you don't have and is in headlines for a security breach. (Yahoo).

  4. Name your products with names only 85 year olds can relate too. (oath,go90)

  5. layoff all your talented employees and replace them with less expensive inexperienced ones so nothing gets done.

Any questions?

You forgot: rip customers off while convincing yourself you are better than all your competitors.

Fiscally responsible/healthy companies pay dividends from profits, or do not pay a dividend at all. Verizon just FINANCED their dividend.

This company has sold a ton of assets. They have sold a large amount of owned buildings and are leasing them back so they could get cash.

Verizon pays over 6 billion in interest on a 117 billion dollar debt. This house of cards will crumble soon.

They paid top dollar to buy out Vodaphone just at the time where Wireless had peaked. Goldman Sachs convinced them it wasn't a problem.

Of course they could have merged with Vodaphone, but that would have meant some executives couldn't keep their high paying jobs. So they let the workers and shareholders take it in the shorts.

The OP fancies himself an Einstein, yet is nothing more than a Monday Morning Quarterback, taking anonymous potshots.

You’ve got such great ideas, ascend the corporate ladder as a person of your obvious intellect should, and put your name, your stamp, on the forward direction.

Well, Lowell HAS to be gone when he turns 65. It's already been announced. Who will take over? Hans? He got fired from Ericsson - and they had a standing ovation. http://nordic.businessinsider.com/after-weeks-of-turmoil-for-ericsson-ceo-hans-vestberg-is-fired---the-time-is-right-for-a-new-leader-2016-7/.... Sounds like he was let go for corruption-type stuff and - oh wait for it - massive layoff's in the struggle to improve profitability.

Stock has been flat (+/-5%) for the last 5 years. Leadership can’t figure out how to move the needle to the right and the shareholders are a bunch of dividend whorz. The perfect storm

The board? Who do you think is driving the changes?

It's a carrot or stick thing. Mr. CEO play along -- RIF people -- and we'll make you rich. Don't play along, you're gone and we'll get someone who will.

My son works for Pepsico (Frito-Lay) -- exact same playbook. Recently someone posted information about how IBM -- once again, exactly the same.

This is coming from board down. It's all calculated to make a few rich, while destroying a company and selling it off, bit by bit. I'm sure it's taught in the "prestigious" business schools.

They make calculations based on how much their customers will endure. "Cut 50% of customer support, maybe we lose 25 to 30% of our customer base. Cut more employees -- accept more customer loss. Eventually sell off anything profitable, we can, "because -- gee whiz -- it's no longer profitable".

I worked for XO Communications. We were $2 Billion in debt. Icahn bought us out of debt, free and clear. His only stipulation is that HE got to claim the debt to reduce HIS taxes.

These people find ways to make more money failing companies than they do on thriving ones. They don't think the way normal human beings think.
