Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Bye Bye Telecommuting

Talks today that all of TechDev will be back to the office full-time starting in April. No more telecommuting. Rest of ATO to follow shortly. Forced collaboration is the name of the game.

That is true, Randy is incapable of doing anything original and this company reflects that at every level.

i wonder what timeframe they started using to do the analysis to move to the cz's, what criteria they used to determine if you were worthy of moving, and what level did this top secret analysis go to. there were other people in non cz's not impacted.

The shedding of remote workers in TechDev started last year. I was one of them that was sent to surplus in Q4 2017. Although, being a remote worker wasn't stated as the reason why I was surplused. I know other remote workers (very excellent people) who were also surplused late last year. When we looked at the data it was clear that remote people were being targeted.

There was talk in 2017 of moving people in TechDev to major collaboration zones. PP said her team took the time to analyze if people should move. After that analysis seemed only a small amount were determined to move to zones (not me). Then months later execs were promoted and another analysis done where it seemed remote workers were sent to surplus.

If you're remote and haven't started to prepare, do so now. From what I could tell if you want to stay you have to be in a major collaboration zone or satellite zone.

Hey Randy.....think about all the money you would save without rent and associated expenses on all those buildings! I don’t think even tax benefits would offset that waste of money.

Randy is upset his leadership has sunk the stock, actually down since he became CEO, while the rest of the market went UP UP UP.... gotta blame someone.... so it's the remote workers that screwed up the company...

Response to 2dzq: You don't know what you are talking about and your level of ignorance about how work gets done suggests you are just another management bully who has no real skills other than s---ing up.

In Response to 2phj: I agree with you totally. The company used to state its now where you do the work, and they even gave us the tools to work remotely. My own business unit has over 60% of its employee base as Flex Office Workers. This site is about layoffs, and I would find it hard to believe the company would start pulling workers back in as Full Time unless the intent is to drive more headcount reduction. IBM (The company) did this same thing not too long ago. My post was about abuse of the program and the employees managers who are just as guilty. That's what triggered the last policy change on the issue. Would like to hear more on the subject and facts as things materialize, if there is any change in progress. If there is any fact to this posting, guess we will find out soon.

In response to 2dzq: if you have a position that works more efficiently remotely and there are many and if your coworkers and managers know your workload as your manager should, believe me there is no watching tv. You’re working minimum 10 hours a day! So to those taking advantage, you lack professionalism and integrity! And not only should you be gone your manager should as well!

If there is any truth to this, then the company needs to apply an equitable arrangement across ALL business units and not just a select few. I know of flex office workers (FOW) who have never come in the office for the past 2 years, and they are not approved for Full time telecommuting. This is a management issue and abuse of the program. I have been both a Full and Part Time telecommuter. Not residing in a collaboration hub location, I have been a more productive and happier employee. Does the company not understand the issues vary by employee? I was a Full Time office worker for 30 years before buying in to the company’s telecommuting program, so I can speak from experience. Management needs to get ther act together on this issue and avoid the abuse of the program.

Boo hoo, you don't get to spend your day watching TV anymore instead of doing real work. Blame the slackers for ruining it for the rest of you. This company is in desperate need of some revitalization and Randall and Co know it. God forbid you have to physically interact with another employee instead of locked away at home alone. 10 years ago, this would never have been given a second thought.

how do you collaborate in the office when all the people you need to collaborate with are in a time zone 12 hours away?

So ridiculous! A mobility company forcing you into an office? Who ya’ll collaborating with? Walls? Dirt? Groups not related to your role ? AT&T wake up! College grads want nothing to do with you and your antiquated process, workforce and crazy rules (unless you’re party of the ‘family’. Anyone still there with any skill set, confidence and drive are looking to get out. Those staying will fit right in with your philosophy. Or they are just desperate for $ and are there only because they have to be. And that’s who you deserve to keep, the losers. Very sad to see the demise of a once great company. Move on folks.

Total genius - have remote teams go in the office and have conference calls in noisy workplace 2020 call center environment. Just a way to cut a few more. Expect total inconvenience and monitoring. Most of leadership came from call centers, no technical backgrounds, just " people" managers.

Expect the real heat this summer if TW deal is blown. It's going to get bad, to much debt, no acquisition. The ponzi is falling. Welcome to Enron, T style.

Possibly true, I know someone in techdev that was 100% virtual and all of the sudden he starts coming to the office twice a week, just said “he’s required to” . The question is there enough office space though, this person has to find an empty cubicle in a completely different department.
