Be very wary of any reports about "average" pay, because the average is much more susceptible to pull from either extreme. So VZ execs getting paid a lot could raise their average, while having many more entry level T spots can lower our average.
Beyond that, unless the pay is corrected for region, there is also a bias. For example, if T has a lot more folks in places like Dallas, Atlanta, and the midwest, even if they earn a good comparative wage, it will appear low to wages paid for folks living in CA or NY, where the cost of living is higher.
If this survey corrected for cost of living by geographical region, as well as proportions of earners, and used median and there was still a discrepancy, that is worth noting. Otherwise it's just clickbait designed to make people angry for no reason.
