Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Meeting

Who else picked up on the vague response addressing the layoff question in today’s meeting? Anyone know what is actually going to happen to the future of HAH willing to tell us all the truth?

No planned layoffs. Please stop with these rumors. Not sure where you heard that but it's not credible.

Many HCM RNs will be let go in April but not sure how many.

Personally, I don't think they will be laying off HCMs right now, the rosters are at capacity. We have so many members to help,it will probably take months before members are transferred to BH. Humana will make sure these members are taken care of properly before they lay off any HCMs. I honestly think the company is trying it's best for members and employees.

I know I am stressed over daily roster changes but I couldn't imagine being in the department that keeps up with CMS changes. We do know changes have to occur, we see the costs daily of medical care and it continues to rise. I'm amazed at how any insurance company can even survive paying all these costs. Humana has to be good stewards of the monies they are entrusted with. If they don't manage the money properly, then premiums increase and our members suffer with higher premiums. Our program is at the mercy of what Medicare dictates. I'm thankful I don't have to make these decisions on layoffs, reporting to members and stockholders. There are cycles in any economy, we are about to enter some rough waters so they are preparing to ride out the storm. Since the last layoff, I am working hard to try to get my members to be as independent as possible so if they don't have me or another HCM, they aren't lost in the system. All we can do is try our best, help as many as we can and realize this is out of our hands right now. This is out of Humana's hands, they are trying to do their best also. I just pray they can still offer the severance if layoffs come again. It's ok to cry, it's ok to blow off steam as long as we aren't mean to each other.

The pay issue or delay noted was not HRs fault. I was moved to hourly and read the FAQs they gave me. The FAQs told me the system would have a delay and to ensure I signed in end of week to update m time before it submitted. I did that and was paid right. S---s you got paid late but maybe you should read the info they gave us. Did you attend the training they did for us? I did and it was in there too. No company is perfect and this is no exception, but lets be real about what is our issue and what is the ones they need to work on. Creating drama that is not real helps none of us

Below poster, I think the answer to part of your question is the lost HEDIS star rating, and dropping in that changed the reimbursement. And, we are competing with our teammates, on some level, to try to not be the next laid off, since the point in time assessment info was discussed, it’s a reality we were ranked against each other. It could happen again. Please call the EAP for support, and you can reach out to community agencies for assistance with food and your bills

This isn't to bash Humana or any drama as others have said. I am not angry with Humana, I was truly worried because I couldn't get answers. The affected employees did contact HR and were told they had to wait until next payday. These actions do not make sense for a company who gives so much to the community and assisted their employees when they were affected by the storms last year. Look at the severance, when other companies just lock their doors, Humana has been more than generous with their severance. Why would a company which has been one of the most stellar employers in the past have HR tell employees to wait for pay?

I have been worried since they first laid off the new hires in the fall and this pay issue just made me cry from stress. People are blaming Humana for the lay offs but I think there is much more to this than what appears on the surface. I don't think this is Humana's fault and here is why. NO company would hire people, send them to training in another state, send them back home to work for less than 60 days, lay them off, pay them until the first of the year, then give them another month of severance unless something unforeseen occurred. This short employment of HCMs will probably cost Humana a few million when all is said and done. Humana is smarter than this, so something had to occur that no one knew was coming, not even Humana. I think this is much bigger than Humana because other insurance companies are making changes/lay offs also. Did Medicare change or stop the reimbursements all of a sudden? Medicare reimbursed in the past for each call made, did the payment amounts decline? You just don't invest money with new hires only to lay them off, Humana is smarter than this. I hear from my members all the time how much more they get from Humana than when they had other companies. Humana can only do this because they are good stewards of the members money. I suspect Medicare did something because I am hearing other insurance companies making serious changes also.

I know many don't understand the reason for the stress for some of us. My income is the only income in my household, I can't afford to miss pay. There are many of us living paycheck to paycheck, one income households with debt. Yesterday when I found out my insurance payment didn't go thru, I just lost it. I came here to find answers/get support. I understand the new system could have a glitch but what I still don't understand is why HR is telling people they have to wait, this isn't the Humana I know. I know most people can forgo 400 without any ill effect but even 200 is critical for some of us. Money is so tight from past medical bills and loss of income when ill, we are just digging out. One more loss of a paycheck and we are done for so I hope people can understand why the panic. I love my members, I don't want to leave here but now I'm afraid with the change to hourly I might end up being let go with others. I don't understand why people are suing the company, this doesn't even make sense to me. I worked for home care, we always took our work/charting home, didn't get paid extra for it. Nurses who didn't want to work the extra time just found another job, you didn't sue your employer. The uncertainty is what is overwhelming. I don't know if I will have a job tomorrow. I have bounced back from the lowest of lows but don't think I can do it again. One day I was going to college and living in decent apartment, the next day I lost funding for college. My wages only allowed for college or decent place to live. I chose college, lived in a condemned building without water and utilities. I could do that in my 20s but not now. Now I cry in the shower so no one hears me. I can't talk to my loved ones, don't want them to stress so I came here. I am hoping someone who reads this will understand our fears, realize those who remain aren't upset with Humana, we are just very uneasy right now. Tell us the HAH vision, if you don't have one, then tell us what needs to be done and let us help create a vision. I feel like we are fighting each other, especially the HCMs but understand we are frightened. This isn't good for the company, the employees or members. As pitiful as it sounds, this forum seems to be the safe place we run to.

@ShGT5Z1-2qec- I would have to agree with you on this. Much like other areas of our lives, everything does not always run smoothly and there are bumps in the road that we must navigate. Why are we expecting this change to roll out 100% without a glitch here and there? I feel like some of us look for any and every opportunity to bash Humana. This may not have been your intent OP, and if you or anyone else are facing a hardship because of an error in your pay I do feel for you. That being said, if you reach out to HR and your Supervisor and explain your situation, they can and will work with you to get you what you need sooner than your next pay period. Please reach out for help if you truly need it, they will work with you. They've helped me in the past so I do know it is possible. Best of luck to you OP!

Our coach told us about the glitch and when to put in the time so it wouldn’t be an issue, maybe you need to follow up with your coach? My time was accurate on my pay, paid as usual on time

When a company does not pay correctly that is a very bad sign. Was waiting for severance but may have to jump ship now.

I'm really getting worried. Anyone else's pay being delayed? Something weird is going on with the pay and not just at HAH. Pharmacy's pay was delayed for several days. There was something on the HR recording about Humana employees and their Humana pay correction would be on their Conviva check. Some of the HCMs who were paid last week weren't paid for all their hours worked. When they called HR about the missing pay, they were told they would get paid next check. People needed their money for medications, groceries, bills. HR said they couldn't do anything, employees had to wait. How can someone wait to buy their medications? It's scary employees are waiting to get paid because of their mistake. They didn't give the correct code options for people to enter their hours. I worry all day as it is, now I have to worry I might not get paid for the hours I worked. I probably need to look for a part time job so I have money coming in if I don't get paid on time.

I have been here for awhile. Not sure I have ever seen efforts toward retention except for when they did approve 10 shifts. But we know what happened with that. More recently it is working 10 hr shifts 5 days/week. A lot of talk....no action.

They've stressed retention after every layoff. Hasn't stopped them doing another one yet. I wouldn't trust any of them.
