Union workers don’t belong in the past. We need unions now more than ever. The job market isn’t pretty. A majority of the jobs out there now are temp jobs (or to put it nicely “contract”). They offer no benefits, 401K, vacation, paid holidays or sick time. Employees are not covered under Labor Laws, OSHA or FMLA. A lot of people are fired for only missing one day of work.

In response to the original post, I think it’s sad that the employees paid every time Randall wanted to make a huge acquisition. We were told to watch our over time and to watch spending accounts for office supplies, etc. All he’s worried about is his bank account and making the greedy shareholders happy. As if $21 million in profit a year isn’t enough. From what I understand, they were upset last year because their profit sharing only went up by less than half a percent. Talk about first world problems. 🤦‍♀️

it's not a good company when they start off shoring work of people with 10 - 15 + years experience and literally dumping them off into the street. the 60 day notice to find a new job on career path is a farce - nobody is even looking to hire half those positions. the same job postings are being recycled here about every 6 months even. even if you have those nano degrees, don't count on getting placed internally. they value nobody here, and they have a system setup to churn and dump.

I wonder if Randy will testify and I wonder if he will tell lies under oath?

No, a person can ask for decent, family supporting pay, good benefits and some job security. This is 2018 and putting profits over the lives of people is barbaric in a country as rich as ours.

Randy and his ilk do not have a right to s--- the life out of a once good company just for the sake of big bonuses and a distorted financial statement, with no thoughts for the lives that are impacted.

T could still make plenty of money without outsourcing U.S. jobs and treating us like crap.

It never gives back, Oh, I guess you are donating your time with no pay?

Stress is what you make it, get over yourself. Every job has its own hell and no one is forced to stay

Good pay, good benefits, vacation etc...

You have to check the alternatives. What business has not had to change to stay relevant?

T is not perfect, but if you think another place is better by all means it’s a free country.

I give a hard days work and get a hard days pay in return, all a person can ask for

Union employees are not overpaid. Think of the significant job responsibilities we carry. Core field technicians are overpaid. Top out in the midwest should be $35 at best. It is a serious shame that we have Core I&R technicians making more than an Energy utility worker. I&R wrote their own death note, while Prem Techs were a temporary position from the get-go. Face it, our wire-line employee base will more closely resemble that of Century link in five years time. We are going to an all-wireless network. I live in Indiana, and there are about 20 5G-ready cell towers that were placed within the past 8 months that are being tested as we sit here. The work will not be contracted out for maintenance, but will instead be managed by a small group of wireless technicians, similar to a small company like Windstream. Wake up, and find another job like I did. Spent years as Premises Technician only to realize that AT&T's wire-line is dwindling quickly. 10 Percent of the Midwest surplus came from my Garage in Carmel, Indiana, which is interestingly enough in the service area of all of the brand-new 5G network towers that were placed in 2017. Find a NEW JOB, build your resume. There is hope, there are many wonderful opportunities out there, just quit being afraid. Did anyone get anywhere in life without taking risks? NO.

@ SgAqsFe-fzc - pretty good summary . and after all that work, sacrifice, and days spent working on your vacations, you learn that you are basically worthless to them after all in the end and flushed down the toilet

You take a job with AT&T because of the opportunity they present and the stability of a company that's been around as long as they have. Then you realize your future's bleak at best, the stress is unbearable and you're losing co-worker / friends on a weekly basis. You begin to doubt yourself, and hate getting up every morning. But you're invested emotionally in the company and rely on the job to survive. It's like an overly needy girlfriend. It takes and takes but never gives back. That's why he's bitter.

A lot of utility stocks are valued only for the dividend. With the landline business on a trajectory to shut down, AT&T is not a growth stock. Stock either grow or pay dividends. AT&T is not doing badly. A stock that is doing badly is GE.

I think AT&T has a future with 5G. According to their earnings call, they are going to offer fixed 5G as an alternative to wired internet, at gigabit speeds. The 5G picture is why I like all wireless.

You can't innovate when your service is ROTTEN to the core, when you don't care about your customers, and employees

Instead of inovating or actually be competitive they rather just buy up other companies.

They could have done video over IP YEARS ago and leveraged their uverse IP but failed.

If they only paid attention to their own inovation pipeline...

That's all we need Stankey running things... He's probably going to stink things up... Maybe even working with Putin... A formidable team Putin and Stankey! Lol!

Could this be John Stankey stabbing Randy in the back because he sees an opportunity coming to get in the big office and use the big jet?

What you are saying is union workers belong in the past. What is your reasoning--over paid, too many petty rules, or obstructionist to the future?
