Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

What has happened to walmart????

I am a walmart customer. I came to this site to see if any employees can tell me what has happened to the check out operators? Lately I have noticed that ever time I go in walmart, there are only 2 registers open, and both ends of the u-scan. This is not early in the morning. It is the afternoon. Everything is backed up. Is this going to be the norm for walmart now? It has been like this for awhile, and it's not just one certain store. There are 4 in my area, and they are all being run this way. The bathrooms were filthy. What is going on?????

The same customers fussing about registers not open also fuss because the people we have in Dept’s stocking get called up front and then their items don’t get stocked or they can’t answer the phone just to answer a question of do you have this item it says you have, will you hold it for me? It’s a dang mess...

@Sc2lL8J-5ypu.....at least that person you are referring to in your comment had some intelligence in their post. Please tell me what exactly was your point? You just wasted my time and everyone else’s who read your comment. 🤦‍♂️ I give the other person props. Their post does at least offer a solution. Maybe instead of targeting his person you can offer some advice per say? Just sayin....

I work for walmart, and It's bad customers grumbling and b--ching all the time about no registers open to spite we have over 30 in our store and 2 open .And When they get busy they sometimes call register trained Associates to the front.A lot of times they don't show up and long lines form.A lot of them don't like the self checkouts and prefer the traditional way of being checked out. They could summon some of the managers upfront including ASM's seldom seen or show up when they are paged.I have seen very few ASM's run checkouts there are a few female managers that will help out in a jam.I have never seen A cant remember ever seeing a male ASM on a register in the 20 years I have worked for the company. It may be a good ideal to put them in line with the CO's and get some working bodies in the store. These bastards are Dun and beyond lazy Bentonville, AR Are you listening. And in closing have anyone notice how dam slow the checkout associates are moving? I time them sometimes 10,15,20 plus seconds to scann and ring up each item. And being in a long line.No wonder customers go insane in the checkout lanes

@Sc2lL8J-1nzn. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Cut the BS about "several numbers to call" and referring to "Sam Walton"... Either you are on a high or HIGH UP in the MGMT... not much difference though...

And sure.. I will ask Sam too... if you can bring him back to validate your comments... (sic)

As an employee I am very disappointed in the direction that our stores are being led. It seems to be the path of self-destruction. The new schedule right program that is supposed to be taking care of the customers is actually doing just the opposite. I personally have seen many customers just walk away empty handed when they have been in to buy something at our store but can not get waited on in a timely manner. Some just walk away, others voice their opinion before they leave, I don’t blame them but it is not our fault. This schedule is created at the home office and we are told that the stores have to follow it no matter what regardless of proper coverage or not. So this is costing us sales of products and leaving customers with a very bad experience in our store. Being a small town word travels fast through family and friends therefore multiplying the bad experience to involve more and more customers. One can’t help but ask themselves is this the plan to drive up e-commerce business?

The way of the future is online shopping and any company that does not champion that will eventually fail.

First of all- How am I suppose to comment? I am not seeing where anyone shares their name. Does my name really matter in this forum or does it just matter to you?😉 I would be happy to contact you to discuss further if you would like to leave your information on a public forum.

To #Bethechange: 1. Your blind allegiance to this chasm of endless greed must have been what February 1945 in the Third Reich was like. And 2.: If you're so convinced of and sold so completely on Walmart....

Why did you post anonymously?

Walmart’s strength has always been its ability to be number 1. I believe Walmart has started chasing Amazon and found itself in an unfamiliar place of chasing instead of leading. Walmart now has got to get back to the basics of taking care of the customer. The old saying dance with the one that brung you. Walmart has forgotten about you the customer to chase Amazon, they want to beat them so bad they have started cutting everything else. Associates in the stores to cut cost to build the e commerce side. Who will take care of you the customers in the Stores. Again just my thoughts, but who am I ? A customer not able to check out 😳

Absolutely spot on. Nobody is #1 except the Waltons, not the customer and certainly not the employees. It really has become a crappy place to work and even crappier place to shop. Blind greed that looks at everything as an unnecessary expense is what's driving this company into the ground.

Unfortunately Sam's beliefs are out the window. This company is too busy trying to copy what other retail businesses are doing. It was Target a few years ago and Amazon now. I've worked for Wal-Mart for 26 years. The customer is no longer #1. The pockets of the senior executives is what drives this company now. It's the New Wal-Mart!

Walmart is going toward automation, so to answer your question yes. As it looks now they will be using less people and relying on software at the self checkouts to monitor people checking out and robotics. As for the comment above about the people in Arkansas running your store and never working in the field you might want to do your research before you make an accusation of such. A lot of people started out in the store (myself included). Your leadership has worked in the store. The problem is not the fact that policy is implemented from Home Office but your negative attitude and choice not to make things better. My suggestion to anyone who is unhappy, speak up! Let your voice be heard! Wal-Mart has several numbers that can call whether you are an employee or a customer. Use them! Let’s get Wal-Mart back to the way it use to be. The way “Sam Walton” wanted it to be. Making the customer number 1!!! #Be the change

@1jnp You probably work at the Home Office where the WM across is the street is picture perfect. The farther you get from Bentonville, the worse the stores are run and look.

All the Walmart’s in my area have staffed registers & restrooms are always clean. I’ve been in the stores during the morning, afternoon, & evening and have been greatly impressed compared to past years. Sounds like your location may be ooor management at the local level.

I am sorry to say that this will be seen more and more. We are not allowed to run our own stores anymore as we see fit. Our stores are run from Arkansas from people that have never been in the field. Everything is thought out for us now we do not even think for ourselves any longer.
