U-verse Prem techs will be phased out, remaining work to fall on TFS

That’s obviously your job to do and never would be pt work. And at one time not so long ago you didn’t know anything either eh????
IEFS would f---ing kill themselves if they even attempted a pole transfer.

I just love the quote “IEFS” does all the work now”. They’ll change a pair or cut a BT out if their buried serving terminal. IEFS cherry picks the cable work they want to do. I don’t see them splittIng any T Types, repairing anything in the last terminal of the lead, or chase F1 trouble on IPDSLAM work. And that’s fine; I don’t expect them to. It’s not their job. Just don’t tell me they’re doing everything.
"When the premises tech title was created it was done so knowing that it was a disposable title filled by disposable people. Uverse tv service is being phased out and getting replaced with DirecTV, and Uverse prem techs are being phased out along with it. Contractors are a much smarter option for the company. Bonded service is already being done by Core technicians, single pair service is next, as it should have been all along. Prem techs were hired as video techs not HSIA techs. That work belongs to Core."
you are an idiot. why would the company pay core 45 an hour to do bonded pair when they can pay a prem tech half that ? do you guys not understand why they made core being surplused to prem tech a lateral move ? they are going to make core prem techs, and if you don't like it then retire. (what they actually want)
in my area core is only getting bonded pair installs because they have nothing else to do all day. they have even been riding two to a truck there is so little work. if anyone is being phased out its the CST position. do you think bonded pair is some difficult task prem techs can't figure out, so they need core to do it ? prem techs have been doing them for many years now. smarten up. the company is throwing you a bone so they arent paying you to sit in your trucks all day.
if the TW merger doesn't go through, don't be surprised if at&t just goes with fixed wireless only like verizon and sells off its existing wireline network to frontier.

Just got notice today MST’s doing bonded pr internet installs with no video
You can only thank your union for that. Amazing
Again with the TFS BS. Grow the f*** up. Here is the cold hard truth. IEFS now places BT cancellation devices, has access to translore, copper tests and changes pairs which limits the amount of helper tickets. Why did they do this because it saves the company money, it allows the company to train lower paid techs to do the work at a lower wage, it allows the work to be done quicker. That’s it. Why are TFS techs getting surplused left and right at a higher percentage than IEFS/PREM because TFS has Techs that are still working that have near 40 years. Having those guys still on the books hurts everyone below them, it doesn’t allow for progression. Is IEFS/PREM title going away? yes as is TFS. The only thing is that IEFS/PREM will be doing TFS work at a lower wage and will be called something else
I guess we’re all safe for now. Haven’t heard of any surplus being announced.
Prem techs, stop working so hard, the company is still going to surplus all of you, because they can. Accept reality.
We all know prem techs are doing cable work, we aren't naïve in TFS. The problem is, you can't turn a brother into management because the union could retaliate against you. If your job description says you don't cut out bridge tap, don't do it! Every time you do, one less job in the pool. Follow the rules, when you don't, you only reward the bad decision makers up above.
Just say NO!
TFS is not "taking" internet installs from prem techs, they are giving them some so they have something to do other than sit in their trucks all day hoping to get a helper ticket that prem techs rarely put in anymore. if they are going to pay them for 8 hours anyway they may as well help clear the load and reduce overtime for prem techs. you guys have been claiming fiber is going back to TFS for two years now and it has yet to happen. don't hold your breath
the 15 is the day , when we all find out more ! Good luck!
So not tomorrow, phew what a relief got some time to start lookin
Every prem tech will be gone in 2 years
So are we expecting a significant surplus tomorrow?
TFS has been doing inside work for many years before Prem Tech was even thought of. Prem Tech title will no longer exist in
the next 2 yrs.
Yes it’s already happening. TFS is taking single pr internet installs also. Fiber also
going back to TFS. The only thing not
going to TFS is video. The writing is on the
wall, more surplus coming.
The only way the union can help both iefs and tfs techs is to double down on training for the jobs of the future. Get real career pathway language into a contract. We should be training for infrastructure deployment and other techs of the future.
We see it all the time when construction is contracted out and the contractors run this fiber cable as fast as possible with no thought of safety to our techs and over all ease and efficiency of access to the terminals. WE should be getting the training for those jobs
They know and we know with the way technology is changing and consumers are buying, these jobs are going away. We should all be given a pathway to a career along with the training and retooling that comes with it.
Here we go again with the TFS vs. IEFS argument. When will you guys ever learn that everyone is expendable regardless of organization. Everyone says the union is weak and they are correct because we are the union and if we continue to argue amongst each other we will never be able to actively and effectively protect against the true threat to our livelihoods the company. I get it Prem feel they got a raw deal and they did in my opinion they should enjoy the same benefits that TFS does. I also get TFS argument who would be pleased to learn the company added a work group to replace them. Both titles are placed in a bad predicament. But remember the company created this problem and it would be naive to believe this was created by accident. How do you break or weaken a union? You sow seeds of discord and create havoc that causes so much animosity that unity, togetherness, and collaboration could not possibly exist. From what I have experienced and witnessed the company has truly succeeded in doing just that "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED ". I'm tired of all of the inner fighting we have been doing this for years and what have we accomplished? Absolutely nothing but an volatile environment that is not conducive to the positive growth of either work group. After all is said and done we are all expendable. The company could care less about TFS or IRFS it only holds allegiance to only one group and that is the "SHAREHOLDERS". How about working together and strategizing on how to merge the two organizations rather than speculating on which group of employees will unfortunately lose their primary means of taking care of themselves as well as their families.
the one tech visit makes more sense for a iefs tech than tfs..... tfs dont want to do anything inside the home, but a prem tech will do any CST work, at a cheaper rate. we will see who actually gets phased out
“All the work.” Lol.
There hasn’t been uverse techs for a while now since that product doesn’t even exit anymore those are now IEFS techs and they do all the work now from fiber to pair changes to satellite with eventually doing even more for less that TFS. They handed down the garbage business voip installs with everything that comes with it to TFS because no one wants to touch that product that’s probably where the op is confusing that they are giving uverse work to TFS. Uverse/iefs tech previously where given those voip installs wich never work and everyone just cancelled because it’s a trash product.
Makes good Business sense, pay one guy to do it all in one tech visit. That the multiple tech visit fiasco we have now, that just loses customers because they don’t want to wait days to get their service installed!
God I hope so. Bring back the ST’s as an entry level role and let me top out at $37 not $24 like some f---ing kid.
And this info came from where?
