Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Sam's Club Demo Department Being Bid Out

Sam’s Club is currently taking bids from companies to run the Demo Departments. Sam’s has been unhappy with the current companies that run the demos throughout the country and is looking for companies that will lower the cost and deliver better member satisfaction. Sam’s has been unhappy for a couple years now with Shoppers Events, CROSSMARK and (ASM) Advantage Sales and Marketing the current companies running all of Sam’s demo program. Over the past few years Sam’s has been unhappy with: Demo execution, inability to run specialized programs beyond food samples, loss of events, poor management and increase in cost associated with demos.

When Sam's Club fired the Demo department, all the employees have been hearing rumors that they are bidding their department to another company. Management had a meeting to end the rumors that they are going to fired everyone and the next day they fired everyone and denied their retirement by offering them temporary positions.

I hear all the complaints, (If you don't like it then quit) Crossmark is getting what they pay for. Quality pay means quality workforce. All take a look at yourself and see if you are the problem or the solution. I have worked for both ASM & CROSSMARK. Lately the demo's lack quality they seem to be the cheapest item that Sam's Club can put out there. Alway s poor product that is made by Members mark. Get back to the quality demo items most of you know customers just. come in to feed their faces. They do not like peanuts, dips & chips pretzels the want food, chicken wings, steak pizza & burgers. Remember who we serve most customers have sampled everything in the store.

I was reading up on this cause I work for advantage in Walmart and I only so far have one store in my area letting me do demos. My manager thought crossmark got bought out. That’s nerve wracking cause my boyfriend just got hired two days ago for demos in sams club with crossmark. But I assume if they transition he’ll be ok.

Before Covid19 hit, i was an ASM event specialist. I am a great people person and enjoyed interacting with customers. When i am doing my shopping in WalMart employees and customers will ask me when i will be giving demos again(all threw 2021). During an enventory check, i found that over 90% of ASM equipment had dissappeared from our storage area at WalMart. Emailed my boss and "was told to ask WalMart associates where it would be". Even tho we have been doing work surveys, it doesn't feel like demos are returning to our area WalMart's, any time soon. Altho we could stock, sanitize, set up shelves within WalMart at our ASM $11 per hour rate/ verses $15 or more that WalMart associates get paid. I did the sanitizing of front end and check outs, when covid first hit, but the exposure seemed too risky for me and my family members, versus hrs and the pay. I just don't feel like Demos are coming back any time soon in the northern ill. WalMart stores.

Lol CrossMark was tan on lies, the kitchen at Fayetteville AR was NOT clean, Bentonville found maggots in the orange juice squeezing machine, had to quit selling juice for a while, the Corp office in Texas turned a blind eye to employee on employee harassment , false reports were not investigated, security camera footage ignored, fu-k you CrossMark executives in Texas! How do you like being treated the same way you treat your employees in Fayetteville Arkansas? You had employees that didn’t take baths, that Sam’s customers could smell! Drinking cokes on their carts, but their daddy’s were CrossMark executives, Nathan had to ignore it. Mario is very prejudiced against LGBT, non Hispanics, and whoever ever else makes his petty fat a-s mad. He’s a liar, Jessica the juice queen is the most dishonest person I’ve ever met, followed by Cesar and Hannah. A speech therapist that cheats and lies, and a wanna be stockbroker lol. Keep sticking by Jessica you id--ts.

I think if Crossmark wants to keep paying us below living wages they will get the type of people they are paying for. I know Sams wants to keep us at Sams help because we do the same thing the staff does for five dollars an hour less

I think they should let employees know what's going on. My boss doesn't know that Sam's is taking his out. That's wrong. Especially for all we have been doing for them

We Crossmark workers are now doing Sam's jobs with lower pay. Pretty sure they make more than $10.75 an hour. It is abuse especially when no one let's you in to do your job.

Yes, Sam’s is paying the wages for Crossmark employees who accept shifts helping in the store. And YES, Sam’s can fire you! It happened to one of my coworkers. They write you up, and if you get 3 write-ups, they tell your Club Supervisor to fire you and leave the store.

In my state, Texas, if you are 65 or older, and /or have medical issues, like heart disease, diabetes, cancer, or a weakened immune system, or are at higher risk for getting very sick from COVID-19, you will still be granted unemployment benefits if you refuse suitable work.

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION? IF WE ARE EMPLOYED BY CROSSMARK CAN WE BE TERMINATED AND LOSE OUR UNEMPLOYMENT IF WE REFUSE TO WORK FOR SAMS? ... They’re forcing us to go back to work for Sam’s yet I Am a senior and don’t feel safe working with the public. I was hired on by crossmark to do demos not by Sam’s ..at least doing demos I’m behind a shield, please anyone? RE: welcome to 2020 Covid demo's. Sept. Anyone else experiencing harassment from Store manager because "we are paying you"?
Is this true. Sam's is paying our wages? Can she/he terminate a crossmark employee?

This is an old article. it is from before the big changeover. Just because they were taking bids does not mean they are unhappy. it is business they take bids every time contracts are up. which is what any business does when they use third party. cutting out advantage was an effort to cut out some of the misscomunication. advantage was working through crossmark for sams. so the supervisors had both advantage and crossmark higherups.
the biggest problem is the lack of qualified employees. It's difficult to get good employees when it is so hard to find out how to even apply for the job. And when you apply for the job and are hired onboarding it's just downright ridiculous you go through more security than if you get a government job. And the technology is the worst constantly not working, and the main reason why most employees quit. on top of that the support is very subpar so when you do have a problem there's no one there to help you. Pay rate is part of the issue even though they pay over minimum wage it's not a living wage that they're paying.

I don't think that it is the management company's or marketing companies that are causing the problems it is the local Sam’s Demo managers and employees. Plus their favoritism with immediate Supervisors that is causing the marketing companies to be unsuccessful. Marketing companies tend to keep the older supervisors and managers who aren't willing to grow or improve the marketing company. They get information and job reports from the former marketing companies or from the local supervisors or their managers creating answers to help each other keep their jobs. Some of these people are no longer qualified to run a successful marketing events much less make a commitment to the new suggested improvements to make Sam's grow and become as successful as any other. Then again it may be in the marketing companies that are tending to except the information received and not improve. The onbording is not enough or recommendation from those covering each others back. Turn over is constant. If you decide to keep the current marketing companies or change to another it would be wise for them to set up interviews from bottom to top. Switch their regional areas around whatever. It's time for turn over locally and hiring people that want to improve and help grow. welcoming the new ideas and implementing. Wages at Costco are $12.65 hr. If you want well trained employees there are plenty that want to leave but not at a lower rate of hourly incom

I’m an ES at Sams
I know I Great,Tell and Sell and have a sales background
One of the major problems I see is being paid $12hr, not being treated fairly and never taking my breaks
Also certain people get every Sat off

The problem is that Brand Ambassador/Event Specialist's are being hired that have no sales background & don't know how to "Greet. Tell & Sell" They have no communication skills whatsoever!! As a result product is being sampled out where Sam's loses money because customers are not being persuaded to buy!! In fact customers are being conditioned that is in OK to just grab the samples & run away!! I myself don't allow this to happen!! I've had my "Food Handler's Certification" since 2014 plus a lifetime of serious outside sales background!! At Sam's Club I think I am slowly getting some attention paid on proper display & talking more!! If not then there would be absolutely no reason/advantage for demo's!! Also it concerns me that we only get paid $11 an hr with no commission which would be an incentive!! The position would therefore draw higher quality sales people as well for the demo's!!

Using third party companies to work in stores is a receipe for disaster. This has been a merchandising an demo scam for decades. Retails dont want to listen nor do suppliers.

Execution of the demos run into problems when the product in not available. Communication is a problem, when you don't have staff that read or look at the wire to see what demo coming up so ordering can be done that's a dis-service to the Event Specialist and to Customer. In some stores this is a frustrating because now the Demo manager have to find a replacement item for the Event Specialist. It has nothing to do with what company the demo are serviced by, the problem is the break down in communication and the availability of the product to execute a successful event.

I think part of the problem is that Sam's club don't have the inventory on hand or an inadequate supply of product . The demo department do their job correctly but if an item isn't available what can they do.

Club supervisors are doing a great job but they can't order the products or make it , it's up to Sam's club management to make sure inventory is available for demo's scheduled.
