Check your pension benefits if you're close to the Modified Rule of 75...Once age 50, the pension changes from "vested" to service...I myself have been surplussed and am a few years from 50- but that's leaving several hundred thousand dollars less that my pension is good for + losing out on insurance benefits- this class needs to include all of the employee's being shafted due to their age- AT&T has been deliberate in their selection of targeted work groups for layoffs! This could cost AT&T billions of dollars if approved for all those affected!

Remember the legacy ATT Wireless folks get a tiny pension and no health benefits so not much savings there except our salaries. What a mess

AT&T uses modified rule of 75. If age plus years of service equals 75 or more, you can retire with retiree benefits. The modified part is that age of 60 plus 15 years is not eligible. Drop the modification and AT&T would save on severance costs.

Set a precedent and take it nationwide, the bad treatment is in all areas. They are looking to cut anyone over 50 or close to rule of 70. They can't hide the facts - let's have Randy perjury himself and do some time for his crimes

I did not volunteer because I was not ready to leave but know I was selected because of age and service. Sure there are many others too.

Better article (no paywall)

Only thing I see is that the court ruled venue in New Jersey is proper.

Ed Whitacre told Randy "to give 'em hell" when he took over as CEO - we just didn't expect 'em to be his own employees?

As a former enterprise sales and 3 time presidents club many other awards. I was in a group of people after so many changes in 2 years. 3 managers, 4 ASC, 4 TSC, 2 SCVP, 2 AVP over our group. 13 1/2 years I was there and if you give me some small sign of structure I can do anything. I accept I was not hitting my numbers but in a group of late 20s early 30s people me and 2 others all us were around the same numbers of attainment and 3 of 5 on my team were pipped out, 2 late 40s and me 51. The younger on teams were kept and moved to marketing or other jobs. I was not going to quit like they wanted and I was going to fight to hit the 5 unattainable metrics in one month they had set for my conditions. Later it came to my attention that they needed a 20% head reduction and they got what they wanted but not how they really wanted it, (resignation by us so it's not reported on employment). I agree..we did not hit our numbers but I think this is Awesome that someone is going after them. I have seen 2 many people close to the rule of 75 that they are trying to force out over 50. No person that has given so much of their life and personal life to a company should be treated as everyday they come in may be their last. The company is a good place to start but not retire unless you are a child of an executive, groomed by leadership or and executive.

About time, I have heard multiple examples of them doing this. I hope Randy loses his job for his discriminatory practices, all to scam people, the new normal for AT&T.

The numbers will speak for themselves. IF you are over 50 the pension costs are more, salary probably more, healthcare. If you are over 50, you are on a list. Its good business to spout about diversity, while alienating a specific diversity group, look over here.
