Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I cannot lose this job... Please Verizon don't close any stores

I'm happy for those of you that want a way out but thats not me. A one time severance check will not support me and my 6 kids. I am a single mom barely making ends meet and thats with the help of my parents and grand-parents. I have also went into over $60,000 in student loan debt in an attempt to better me and my kids life. During some leaner months i racked up some credit debt (yes i know it was dumb but it was the only option at the time) alittle under $20,000. If the store closes me and my 6 kids could be homeless with near six figures of debt. Is this all stores closing or just a few... I have cried myself to sleep everynite for the last week. Sorry for the rant I just need to hear something positive for once.

@2pat, au contraire, were the OP union, earning a livable wage for her toiling, she would be better off, rather than groveling at the prospect of potentially imminent unemployment without due process and just cause.

Things can be very unfair when you do not organize, leading to arbitrary outcomes.

You should have closed your legs more often and you would not have six mouths to feed. Learn to give a good blo--ob. Make money and no more kids. The union will teach you.

Loosing a job can be tough but I want everyone to remember one thing. The skills that we’ve acquired at Verizon are highly wanted by other companies! You’d be surprised how your everyday responsibilities will translate to high paying jobs outside of the wireless world. Do your homework, go on interviews, great jobs are out there and they love Verizon employees. Your skills are wanted and in demand. Whipe any tears and start submitting resumes, you will be fine! Don’t forget you work at a fast pace fortune 20? company, we got this. Let’s get it done!

Go get a job at T mobile. Seriously! They're growing and expanding while verizon is shrinking employees down to a skeleton crew. Go interview, get in now, don't wait for verizon to make your decisions for you. Also don't declare bankruptcy until you find a new job. A lot of employers check your credit and that could look bad for you.

My advice to OP is more HUMs, more babies! Find a rich husband at one of our stores. Soon those kids will become adults and for sure you wont have to work any more. They are a great investment.

A few thoughts, maybe wrong, maybe right, who knows?

I think, possibly, the OP’s story is a bogus troll’s tale, meant to get a rise out of people? If so, it succeeded, getting 28 replies (so far), in the last 6 hours, much like the suspected dopey troll of the EWA Training thread, who I had hoped would get ignored with zero responses but, instead, resulted in 12 dupes taking the bait.

Or, perhaps it’s someone with a lot less responsibility (no 6 kids), who believes that spinning such a dire tale of woe might increase the possibility of tugging at the heartstrings, as to influence a more positive outcome than the one that he or she believes is in the future.

Or, perhaps, it is legit and, society, being what it has morphed into, has enticed the miscreants amongst us to go the mob mentality route, piling on ( or is it just the same individual who keeps commenting, to give their argument an air of legitimacy ) ? As someone commented earlier, maybe the circumstances of the OP are misconstrued. Maybe she’s a widow, the former wife of a d---beat, who’s to say, from the limited information available.

And, @yot, I think you paint with too wide a brush when you prejudiciously say, “...and it is full of trolls, mostly old union wireline employees, who will say the meanest and most hurtful things here...” I find, with few exceptions, the “old”, as you label them, union wireline employees far less vulgar than others here. But, believe whatever you’ve been conditioned to believe of your perceived nemesis. However, your bigoted views don’t hold water in reality.

zjv: suggesting the OP tape her knees together IS offering support, is it not??? Are you recommending she have MORE kids? If so you are as dense as she is. If not you agree with the tape solution and are spewing hypocrisy. Make a decision and think before you react.

Hey guys I'm the [[[Original Poster]]] and I have been reading the responses all day. Someone asked when I'm finishing college I have 1 year left but I am taking a break to support me and my kids. Also I truly want to say thank for all of the positive support it means the world to me. I know I can overcome anything if my store closes it will just be another hurdle in my life but I'm use to those. Thank you again for the support and well wishes.

Of course the OP is a troll post. No one could actually be as stupid a--)he portrays. Thus the rather hard line replies.

A real helpful tip, if you owe six figures in revolving credit, bankruptcy will be the answer to all your worries. You get to keep all your assets, win-win. Think of it as a fresh start, aside from that, am I the only who sees the OP as a troll post?

Odt people saying she needs to duct tape her legs shut and saying she is a rash to society implies exactly what I said. One person made the comment that she needs to keep her legs closed. Others are suggesting she strip. People are being hateful and judgemental instead of offering support. We are all scared of what is happening with this company, no one needs to be an a--.

yxc, NOBODY in these replies has called the OP a wh-re. YOU are the one raising that accusation. What most are saying is if you can’t afford to have X kids, THEN DON’T HAVE THEM. Gender, marital status, s-xual preference have nothing to do with it. It is called being responsible. Don’t screw your entire life up by being stupid and then expect everyone else to bail you out.

I cannot support one kid while working at Verizon. I had to buy him two new cars in the past 3 years. Send him to college for 4 years. Pay for private school through 12th grade. Pay for all of his $100 or more sneakers at 5 pair each year.

It's funny to me that when a woman says she a single mother people immediately assume she is a wh*re. Perhaps her husband died or left her with 6 kids to support and he's a d---beat. I'm a single mother, my husband died almost 6 years ago. I rely on my job at Verizon to support my child on my own without any support from the government. Grow up and stop being heartless jerks!!

Then might I suggest OP petition “mother church” to raise her sweet little cherubs for her rather than asking a corporation to do it on an anonymous LAYOFF board. Just sayin’

Some of you have forgotten or never learned that mother church asks that we procreate or at least leave the possibility of life open in our marriages. Judge not.

“a lot of you seem to think that jobs grow on trees and you just have to pluck one off when you need it.”

Bingo! Spot on! This is WHY you don’t grind out a 1/2 dozen urchins to feed and cloth.

A woman who is obviously terrified of losing her job was honest enough to explain her situation. She and millions of others, in this country live paycheck to paycheck, work hard and barely get by.

She doesn't need platitudes and the viciousness of a pack of mongrels -- she needs comfort and helpful suggestions.

Maybe, instead of opening your judgmental mouths you could suggest another job for this woman if she loses her Verizon job? I mean, a lot of you seem to think that jobs grow on trees and you just have to pluck one off when you need it.

If you can't do that, you can at least shut the hell up.

OP; good luck to you and your children. Hang in there -- Verizon (like many other American corporations) is quickly turning to a third-world company. The only good thing is that when they alienate and lose their customers with crap service, other companies rise up who understand they need to be human to their customers and employees.

Of all the replies so far, the ‘most hurtful’ are the best advice. It does no good to tell people that they are doing ok and all will be fine when their own posts state otherwise. The OP’s parents and grandparents have failed this lady by not being ‘more hurtful’. Ice cream and lollipop advice is what got her into this mess. Now a good dose of verbal a-- kicking is in order. Maybe she’ll snap out of this daydream world created by weak minded, wishy washy, weak people.

OP. Please please please do not come to this website for help. It is a vile, cesspool of negativity and lies. I personally am st the point where I would welcome a severance, but I know others that wouldn’t. It sounds like you’re in a tough spot. It seems most stores and locations are unaffected. Keep your head up, pray and know that your kids are looking up to you and will be grateful for your hard work. Please do yourself and favor and don’t come here again. It will just make things worse. It will cause nothing but anxiety and it is full of trolls, mostly old union wireline employees, who will say the meanest and most hurtful things here. Don’t take my word for it. Just read the comments to the thread here. Good luck, I know you can make it. Best wishes to you and your family!

Here is something positive: give those kids up for adoption so they will have at least a half a chance in life. And then duct tape your knees together. Any single imbecile who squirts out six kids is a rash on society.
