Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Most of this board is wrong.

I've been with Verizon for a very long time, worked in multiple channels, both wireline and wireless, union and non-union. Between my position and my connections I know what's going a little before the leaks show up.

I come here mostly for the entertainment, here's why:

The majority of the posts are complaints about stupid sh--, not in anyway related to layoffs and mostly caused by peoples own stupid choices and stressing over things that don't matter.

The majority of posts that ARE about layoffs are wrong. They are created by fear mongering trolls and union recruiters and have zero basis in reality.

"BuT eVeRy ReAl LaYoFf HaS bEeN pOstEd HeRe"

Kind of.

Everyone has been posted here, that is correct, what isn't correct is the details. When they layed off experience there were tons of posts screaming about how the bottom 20% of solutions were being laid off. This wasn't just a misunderstanding, it was blatantly false and there was never a plan for that. Either people looking to make trouble and laugh at people's stress posted it or it was a scare tactic to get employees to unionize.

It isn't that new either, the 2014 call center closure announcement. There were posts all over the web about Tampa and El Paso closing, that never happened nor was it ever planned.

Lots of sh-- posting

Losts of blatant lies

Lots of trolling

This site has become worthless.

All social media, including this site is for crybaby losers who are paranoid schizophrenics. Do you really find credible information on this site? The sky is always falling. Chances are if you get cut you were the weakest link. You were the least necessary employee or asset to the company. We had two guys cut from field ops back in November 2017. They were literally they slowest and most complacent on the team. No one was surprised when it happened. Go to work everyday and dominate your work day. Everybody that got hit in the November 2017 RIF was a house clean. Instead of uselessly crying and whining on this social media site take a look at yourself and find a way to improve yourself. Then go out and fight for your job by way of performance. NO company gets rid of its best performers, that’s a fact! If you got cut, go out and fight, punch and claw to find another job and dive into it with the highest motivation and drive to learn and be the best at what you do. Successful people don’t cry and complain. They fight and never give up. Complaining and having meltdowns over rumors and situations after the fact get you nowhere. Tell me my post is wrong.....you’re just proving my point. Look at yourself, improve and fight for it. You’re NOT entitled to anything!

@FTO, great post. I heard Initech had the same problem with payroll. Verizon must be using the same payroll system.

I know that the Director of the NOC was going to say that 6months ago. There’s your proof!

The Director of the NOC came out and said, "For those of you that browse the layoff site, it was correct we are having layoffs" And more will be coming

OP: When you saw incorrect information posted on here you didn’t bother to correct them?

Of course not, you didn’t know it was incorrect until after the fact.

You know nothing. Prove me wrong and tell us what is about to happen in the next 6 months, and don’t forget the details you claim to know.

You should sell your 6 month look into the future information to the other providers. I bet you could make a lot of money doing that. Maybe you should work for Hillary or Bernie. They will pay big $$ for your fortune telling talents.

I know absolutely everything 6 months before it happens and I can tell you that this guy is full of sh--! He know the extract ratio of people being laid off before it happened back in November but I did! And months before it happened!

Sure there’s a lot of b--ching here but, this is America and it’s out right!

There may be some some inaccurate information during lay-offs but there is always misinformation in the heat of battle. This knucklehead doesn’t bother to mention that. I’m telli g you know everything that is about to happen over the next 6 months because of my incredible insider connections. Instead I’ll just b--ch about this site.

The original purpose of this board was about layoffs, so what? Layoffs happen relatively infrequently, the board would become stale and nobody would bother with it. If you don’t like a particular topic simply don’t bother reading it.

Why do you come here to only read about layoff rumors if you already know everything with all your insider information?

Tell us about all the correctly detailed insider information you have posted before.

I think the only inside scoop you get is the same as everyone else’s.

So, if you are “in the know” then why don’t you post what’s coming in detail? You complain about others lacking detail so here’s your chance to show us all the inside info you have.

"The majority of the posts are complaints about stupid sh--,..."

I guess you're not what some call a "big picture guy". Even though you like to try to sound like one.

Happy employees don't come on boards like this one and gripe. Disgruntled employees do.

Now for the "big picture" and the question you should be asking yourself: "Why are so many employees so unhappy?"

Well... for starters -- the obvious assumption that anybody laid off was laid off because they were "fat that needed trimming." That's absolute BS and I think everybody knows it.

Layoffs are, for the most part arbitrary. The parts that aren't arbitrary are outright illegal. Look at the layoffs at IBM, AT&T, Pepsico and Verizon in the last couple of years. (I'm sure there's dozens of other examples.)

Everyone of them had a dis-proportionally high percentage of older employees laid off. This is not only illegal, it's outright stupid.

In a healthy, thriving company, the older employees, with decades of experience, are used as mentors to the younger employees. It's very logical and natural and by far the best way to train the next generation.

"Oh, but the technology changes -- we need new blood", a million idiots shout in unison. I've been a phone tech for over 35 years -- do you imagine I was only good with the obsolete equipment I worked on the first year I was a tech?

But the stupidest part of hiring people based on their ability to stare at a smart phone screen is that the tech is the easy stuff.

The hard stuff, the stuff that takes years of experience to achieve are the real basics. The ability to see the network in your head, the ability to prioritize, to collaborate (and by that, I mean real collaboration -- not answering a Tweet in five seconds). The ability to solve problems, not pass them off. And the ability to know when you need to pass the problem off. (And to know the reason why that sounds contradictory, but really isn't.)

If I didn't work with people who had this knowledge and who passed it off to me, I never would have been a good tech. I've always remembered the advice one of my mentors gave to us over thirty-five years ago when one of the rookies wouldn't shut up. "You can keep opening your mouth and stay stupid or you can close it and learn something."

Most people aren't naturally stupid -- they know when they're being lied to and Verizon is lying to their employees on a daily basis. It starts with the glad hand.

"You're a valued employee!" Code for -- if you're near sixty or even the north side of fifty, we got a guy here with a timer -- next layoff, you're gone.

"We're growing -- we need more employees -- not less." Obvious BS.

"After this latest re-org, we've got the team we want!" (Well, at least until the next layoff or re-org in two months.)

And there's the real problem. Verizon treats their employees like they're idiot children, not adults. Give us reality, not bullsh@t. If you're planning to cut half the employees say it, like adults -- don't sugarcoat it like you're dealing with imbeciles.

After we merged my department was constantly spoon-fed, sugar-coated horse manure by the division we were supposed to merge with.

"We need you, we have WAY MORE work than we can handle." Sure you do, is that why you've blown off every one on one meeting you scheduled and refused to send any information on my new work assignments, when I asked for it repeatedly?

One thing thirty-five years of tech experience gives you -- the ability to build a well functioning bullsh@t indicator. After the merger mine spent over a year pinging it's brains out. I knew it wasn't a matter of if I'd get laid off -- it was when I'd get laid off.

Our company had about 2,500 employees when we merged. Other than the headquarters people and finance they really, really wanted each and everyone of us, they lied. Now my former company is down to a little more than 100 people working for Verizon. Most of those folks will probably be gone after the IT layoffs.

If the leadership of Verizon were real adults instead of mice, they would have been upfront with us: "Hey you guys are toast. We don't want you -- we want your assets." Would I have been happy about that -- no -- but I would have had a whole lot more respect for Verizon.

And maybe that's the real reason they don't want the old guys. The new guys haven't figured out how to build a well-oiled bullsh@t detector yet.

@fto I'm guessing you didn't actually read the post.

Guys a d--k but he's not wrong. He didn't say it completely wrong, more that it's occasionally reporting correct layoffs in-between constant b--ching and incorrect info.

He's right -- me and 16,000 other people DIDN'T get laid off on December 29th.

We only THOUGHT SO because Verizon stopped giving us those paychecks.

Must be some kind of "clerical" error. I'm sure Verizon will have it straightened out soon.

Regardless if it happened or not the bottom 20% Solutions Specialists should be let go. These people are not making the company or themselves any money. The bottom 20% rarely make quota and it’s always the same people. We have a rep in our district who did not make quota 10 months in a row. Guess who is still working.? ....went on a PIP barely made quota 3 months straight ...off PIP....now he’s 2 months in a row without making quota again. Then ironically you have a rep who was #1 in the company the last few years get fired because he stole from Target. You can’t make this crap up.
