Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

16,000 in 7 years

Just wondering, how many more companies can brag with such a high number of layoffs in seven years? All in the same area.

I think we all know what happened to those jobs. The need for call centers didn't suddenly go down by more than half.

Think what you want of call center workers, but this is a lousy way to treat American employees.

"They need to FIRE many more of all the stupid workers.."

Sure Randy it is everyone else who is the problem and you are a victim, who gets paid $78,000 for every single day of the year.

They need to FIRE many more of all the stupid workers that just talk, BS and do nothing. ATT is a company where people spend 70% of their time pretending they are doing something in a conference call. And the rest surfing the web. Let's be honest this company needs to fire much more people.

Per annual report, in 2015 there were 281,450 employees, in 2016, 268,540, and 2017, 254,000. That's a loss of 27,450 employees in 2 years. Meanwhile, outsourcing and offshoring jobs is rampant.

SEC are legal requirements for reporting, Randy volunteers nothing about the loss of American jobs.

A more relevant stat that should be revealed is the number of contractors , vendors, and off shore resources AT&T has now. They probably have over 350,000 people on the pay roll if you add up the non permanent people. Somehow it makes sense to the bean counters in charge.

"The company tries really hard to hide this fact"

No they don't. I think the number of employees is reported in every quarterly report. They would have SEC problems if they tried to hide it.

When they announced 2020, they had about 300,000 people. Last time I checked, they have about 250,000. I think the target is around 200,000 by 2020. Don't know if that is the beginning of 2020, or the end.

Anyone doing actual work in this company knows that that tens of thousands of jobs have been eliminated. This does not includes jobs outsourced, retirees etc.

The company tries really hard to hide this fact, in part so Randy can tell lies to get his schemes approved by regulators.

The layoff train continues - some were reorganized right sized and offshore but the reductions are real

How many layoffs are we talking about? We're not talking about 16,000, because the language was, 16,000 jobs were "eliminated" over 7 years.

This "elimination" occurring over 7 years could be a combination of not hiring, people quitting, people retiring, people transferring, along with layoffs.

Some contracts provide that a person facing layoff be offered a job elsewhere in the company, and some take the offer.

So, the end number of people actually "laid off" could be considerably lower than the 16,000 "eliminated".
