Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Strike is exactly what we need

A major union preparing to strike against AT&T has compiled a detailed report of U.S. layoffs and call center closures that it says shows the telecom giant has violated its own post-tax reform promises.

As opposed to the company? If you want to put your work life completely in Randy's hands you have not been paying attention to what has been going on or you are management.

How about union benefits, pension and at least some job protection.

The union cares about getting your dues and that is all. They will tell you anything to keep that going. If you haven't figured that out by now, you are truly dense.

The last time i saw a strike, it was an orchestrated event, planned out between the company and the union. The workers spent 3 days sitting in front of garages drinking beer cooking brats on the grill and some signs posted hangin off a truck and trailer of one of the workers. At some point union leadership will tell the negotiators to take what is offered which will be a couple percent raise, no change in healthcare, management and retiree's seem to be subsidizing union goops healthcare, a $1000 signing bonus, and nothing else changes. Protecting US jobs is not gonna happen. 150K got to go by 2020 to meet corporate goals.

National Union or even districts don't care. Except about dues.

Our state Rep makes 92K per year. Worked at the company for 38 years. Lives on a lake.

Try this, email your district. State coordinators and reps.

Let them know how you feel.

All they will do is email your local Prez and tell them to "control their members"

You'll get no answers.....just told to follow the chain of command.

Shut up, and keep paying your dues peon.

A strike is the only way to exercise any leverage, otherwise you are just letting the company do whatever they want.

If you do not fight back they will walk all over you on their way to collect their millions in bonuses.

Been on strike 4 or 5 times.

Used to be, no contract, no work.

That got the company's attention right now.

3 or 4 managers in a Focus going out to do tech work. Ha!

But not, with the soft newbies, who would rather take a $1000 bonus than a 2.5% raise, can't afford to go on strike.

And they'll b--ch about the crap contract and how they are treated and how "we" need to do something.

I'll be headed to my cabin tomorrow as a retiree.

You folks be sure to keep complaining here and not to the Union.

Have a great week!

The problem with a strike is, the CWA contracts have different expiration dates. So, right now it is only Midwest and Legacy T without contracts. I believe all of wireless, West, Bellsouth and Southwest have contracts.

What's the old saying? United we stand, divided we fall? Well, divided contract expiration dates is not a good prescription to getting a good deal.

It doesn't sound to me like they're close to impasse yet. We'll see what happens if the company issues last, best and final offers.

There is one elephant in the room that is quite obvious. The labor intensive landline wireline telephone is going the way of the dinosaur.

Well now that makes sense... AT&T has laid off 16,000 call center worker. So the remaining 14,000 want to "walk out" to prove a point. That 'point' will be that THEY ARE NOT NEEDED!!!!! Almost all calls are handled from an entity other than AT&T call centers. With them closing multiple call centers this should be obvious to everyone.

Just go ahead and shoot yourselves in the foot and walk. AT&T doesn't want employees anymore. I would be very wary of any advise that CWA gives. The union bosses still get paid while you walk for $0.00.

The best bet would be to GET TRAINED on the new technologies and move within the company.
