Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Layoffs? Remember this one thing ..

It’s not what you know, but who you know. This next round of layoffs, as in the past, will almost certainly impact those who are not liked by their bosses. Unless your center or location is closing, your boss has immense pull over who stays and goes on their team.

A lot of AT&T is evaluated on metrics - making numbers. A supervisor is responsible for the numbers made by his occupational workers. A 2nd level manager is responsible for the numbers of the supervisors.

If one is employed in an area with metrics, there is much more likelihood that one will be evaluated by their numbers.

Making numbers keeps the pressure off, whether it is you, or your boss. The boss, first and foremost wants to keep the pressure off him/herself.

The original poster is correct. The boss has major pull on who gets canned. Also, for management employees watch very closely on what they put on your appraisal. Furfill every obligation and also watch very closely on the preloaded data for the ELM assessment.. they will try to dummy down your skills where you can't add additional skills .. make sure you get it corrected ASAP

For management, that is true that who the boss dislikes plays a major role in who gets canned. It is easy to make up the ratings so they are in the bottom range targeted

It only gors by seniority for bargained positions. Are you sure the OP was referring to bargained positions? For everyone else, layoffs are based on a subjective analysis of your worth to the company versus others at risk based off your leadership’s opinions — exactly like the OP said.

It goes by seniority, stop spreading provocative lies.

Right. Bargained surpluses are 100% by seniority per union contract.
