Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Promotions for men in retail in Ohio scarce!!

Why is it so hard for a man to get a promotion in Ohio for retail. ARSM, DOS, AVP, VPGM, and regional president all women. There are a few token men promoted here and there but the vast majority are friends of the AVP from dallas and usually women. It is plain as day and discouraging.

Promoting diversity is a completely different thing than outsourcing and gutting the work force.

If your a white male get ready for surplus and/ or poor reviews by less than qualified managers. Diversity at what cost, violating laws, off shoring. And for my brothers from another mother, your jobs will be outsourced/offshored too.

If you think being qualified and hitting numbers are enough, you are next. Randall don't care, The Johns care even less.

Diversity here is about cost cutting and paying less

I have to say this kind of thing is happening all over the place. Don’t be a straight white guy is all I can say, you won’t get promoted. All promotions that have occurred in our group are foreign national or minority (if that’s even a thing anymore), mostly women. That’s odd considering our group in mostly white males and females. Others are starting to notice and things are being said in hushed tones. It’s not right under any circumstances IMO. I’m all for best person for the job, doesn’t matter what you look like, where you are from, what your s-xual preference and/or orientation is.

All those women have all been forced out or fired under the current AVP.

all true... as a RSM I was told I had to hire a female. specifically told to violate labor laws by deliberately bypassing a person based on their gender.

In Georgia Retail, you cannot get a promotion without being in the circle.

It is happening all over with less qualified women being promoted and you see women helping female friends because everyone at the top wants it to look like diversity is driving promotions. AT&T is a poorly run company which is why at one time 2/3 of employees were union because employees needed protection

No. It's not called diversity - it's called fear and greed. From what I see, your value to the company depends on who you know, how big a braggart/kiss-up you are, your gender, your race, and who you can influence/intimidate with your gender/race. Your actual knowledge doesn't seem to be taken into account.

If you happen to be white, male, and over 50, or any combination thereof, in addition to being a quiet, sort of solitary, get-the-job-done type, I'm betting your "value" in the company's eyes is not what it should be. They want puppets that know how to play the game and know how to "manager-speak" - talk without actually saying anything - not real people that actually know something.

Thankfully, there are a few exempt employees that don't fit into the att managerial mold, and for them, I am grateful. My condolences to you few, 'cause y'all are definitely swimming upstream.

You guys are short-sighted. If the company is hiring people who are unqualified then the value of employees who are well-qualified rises.

The work needs to be done and the qualified workers are the ones who can do it. The more they are called on to do the work the greater grows their experience; The greater grows their experience the greater grows their qualification and thus the greater grows their value.

I have seen it for Years, females without college degree managing engineering projects, I am not sure how this happened, but I know it is the reason senior management do what the do best. Buy other companies, AS they are lost and they are just buying time, keep the ruse going!!!LMAO

Because the company is focused on Diversity instead of hiring the most qualified candidate. I was on a call a few weeks ago with my African American director who stated the company is focusing on giving opportunities to women of color. I have no issue with the company wanting a diverse work force it allows for a more balanced view in upper management but these hiring decisions should not be made on the color of ones skin alone whether white or black or another race.

It sounds like the problem isn’t that women get preferred treatment but that friends of the AVP get preferred treatmenT ?

Equal pay for equal roles should be the norm.

This is where diversity gets tricky, it only applies to some .

If your just a guy with a family, your one foot out the door.

After centuries of women not getting equal pay it is about time! They were all lazy a-- managers any way.
