Anyone here that was surplussed and found a better job outside of the company? Anyone want to share there success story on how they overcame the surplus and done much better .
I know one lady that was suplus in the Network Operations and now she is working in Department of Homeland Security making very good money.
I was off payroll for 40 days when i started at a fiber optic company. enjoy going into an office where you are treated with respect and is non toxic. They feed us often. lmao every day as there is not automation for vtns. leadership is clueless
Surplused 7/31/18 from Finance. I got certified as a Mediator and opened my own firm. In six months I have created my own business and am working within my community to make it a better place. This is something I could not do at T. I am loving life and so happy to be out of the toxic mess of office politics.
I’m volunteering at the county helping community members with housing and civil disputes while I meet business owners who need help restoring trust between their teams. I am mentoring youth with their soft skills because our push to get kids online has made it so our kids can’t handle conflict or even look someone in the eye and connect on a human level. They don’t have a clue what is needed to make it in the workplace. I am working to help people in my community, one person at a time, to make this a better world and maybe overcome some of the impacts T has made on our society as we pushed for online usage and tech driven solutions. We’ve forgotten how to be human.
I wish the people on this website would look towards ways they can make things better than how they can use “the system”. That behavior will keep you from succeeding post AT&T and will frustrate you as you fail to get your next job. Change your attitude towards creating solutions (something AT&T used to be known for) and you will land on your feet.
It is better. I’m sitting in the remodeled kitchen mostly paid for through surplus check. Got a better job, more money, and appreciated in my new position. And I’m over 60.

I was surplused after 12 years with T.. Thought it was the end of the world! Used this as motivation and went back to school to obtain my CCNE! Have never look back at that SH**THOLE of a company! Currently making close to 6 figures working at a major health care facility! T was one toxic place to work at! Good Riddance!!
I found havent got surplussed but i saw the writing on the wall. I wanted to be proactive instead of reactive. I transferred from another state and they tried writing me up for not demoing direct tv. The manager lied on my write up. I got union involved and got her a-- transferred. I feel alot better being out of the clutches of at&t. I start my new job in two days. I will miss my co-workers. I feel bad for the customers, because they have no idea what type of customer service at&t is going to give them.
I was in ATO, they wanted me to train my replacements, did give the company 1 week notice , found a job 2 months later, my current employer paid for me to fly for the interview and all my moving expenses once I accepted their offer, I may say did not have to wait 29 years to get 4 weeks vacation 29% bonus, great benefits, I just sorry did not make this move before
I was a RAE surplussed on 3/31/17 after 16 wonderful years. I had 4 job offers before I left. I took a month long vacation before starting my new job on 5/1/17. Same money. No weekends. The only thing that I miss is my 5+ weeks of paid vacation. You won’t die without AT&T.
There are over six billion people on the planet. Few work at AT&T and are doing ok. Here is your answer.
As with the previous poster, my quality of life and peace of mind we're both restored after I left. I enjoy going to work instead of dreading it. Look upon it as a blessing.
I was surplussed on March 31st, 2017. On April 5th I started my new job in a different state. I was an AE. I am now in a completely different field. After I was notified of my surplus situation I initially was devastated. After a week or so I made a conscience decision to look at my situation not as an obstacle, but an opportunity. I would tell everyone I came in contact with (friends, families, strangers) that I was looking for work after being with AT&T for 10 years. One of the scores of people that I mentioned my situation to told me of a job opening. I applied and was given the job. The pay is comparable to what I was making previously, but the fringe benefits aren't as good. However, my quality of life is so much better now.
