Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon Business takes over Network management from VZW?

Verizon Business tech here, we have been told that we are taking the network management functions from VZW, starting this year.

Was this work contracted? We're the techs that did it riffed?

Since VZB can use contractors per our useless excuse for a contract, are we just providing a conduit for additional contracting?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Yes, the general or "global" idea is to phase the business end of the VZT into VZB. Adding in more SDN switching and less physical C.O. switching.

IT work....almost all of that is done off shore now, and more is slated to be sent that way. Maybee a small needed part of wireless will be done by VZB.

The 5G network will be expanded by the use of contractors and VZB supporting it. Very little if any will be handled by VZT wireline. It simply is the plan of senior management.

Now you will ask how can they justify this. Easily, Starting in 2018 all financial departments will need to justify their spending based on what that department will do in the future. No past precedent, no prior years budget will be referenced. Your bean counters will submit this to Basking Ridge and then BR will review and correct with the red pen. Just because you previously had, for example, $250,000.00 budgeted for vehicles, training etc year over year does not mean anything. You can submit that to BR but they will be able to strike it down.

This is how they will mold the business units (or silos).

You heard it here first.

VZB here: We took over VZW equipment late last year, and still have to call their NOC when dealing with it. So there are still separate NOC's as of right now. But that doesn't mean Johnny Bean Counter or Suzy Spreadsheet won't consolidate them to save .005% and make the field's life even more miserable.

Network Operations at VzT and VzW have been merged for a few years now. So..... if VzW network operations is going to VES (VzB), then so is VzT.

The OP said the tech work was going to VZB, forget IT, that ship has sailed it's gone, never coming back get it?

They are building a 5g network, from scratch, and I'd like to know who is going to do this.

And where's my EIPP?

What is VES ABM? I know what VES is but not ABM.

Sounds likely, because they have already sent VES ABM to IBM

Rumored that around May 2018, IT personnel will be offered to stay on as contractors, or be eligible for a 1 month severance package.

Again - rumors only at this point, but as we all know....our rumor mill is pretty damn accurate.

VZB work is contracted out to Ericsson everywhere but the USA. Do the math. The business case to do the same thing in the US has been in the works since at least 2011

Does anyone think we will be one company at any point? If you merged vzb and VZW, how long before VZT gets wise and wants to manage the whole enchilada?

If true, this 'merge' could be one of the largest RIFs we've had yet. Hopefully this gutless company will continue to honor their severance package. At 20+ years, the only milestone I have left is the 5weeks vaca at 25 years, and the RIF. I'd rather have the rif in all honesty, this will make 3 years running that I volunteer for it...

VZB started taking over some VZW equipment beginning late last year, this I can confirm. Not sure yet about any NOC responsiblities, etc.

VZW and VZB are slowly being merged, probably due to One Fiber and 5g. I work in the Core footprint, so it may be a bit different here than in the rest of the country.

In order to answer your question, Which tasks specifically are you taking over?
