Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Severence Packages

For those of us waiting for the inevitable layoff. Would anyone from yesterday's round be willing to share the general details of their severence offer? It will be anonymous as per the terms of this site, but any information would be appreciated.

I disagree that we don't need a lawyer to overlook severance package. Get an employment lawyer though, they know whats fair and if you should pursue more money. It doesn't cost as much as the sleep you will lose never knowing.

If you think about it for more than two seconds you will figure out that Enbridge is going to offer you a fair package. Why would they risk numerous lawsuits and all the legal fees by low balling everyone. No it's not the best pakage out there, But i really doubt many of us are getting screwed.

Ex employee here again, keep in mind that Enbridge ultimately wants to stay out of court. They don't want to be fighting a lot of court cases over severance. They will give you as much as they think you will take so it's not worth the bother of seeing a laywer. They are pros at figuring out what that number is.

Ex employee here again. Disclosing the details of my severance package won't help anyone. What are you going to say, 'Some anonymous poster on the internet said he got x, so should I!' You get what you get. If you're unhappy, try and sue. While your case is in arbritration, you get nothing. And I'm betting Enbridge has some decent lawyers in their employment. Good luck!

Truth. Unfortunately some people are selfish and only care about themselves and not helping others.

Disclosing package will help the next guy not you that is true. That attitude is now commonplace which is sad. You do know HR will start with lowball offer especially dealing with the more non confrontational types who will end up with crappy severence unless we share this info so the little guy gets a fair shake

17 year ex-employee here again responding to 'num nuts' below. The other reason I don't disclose my severance details is that there's really nothing in it for me if I do. I will say I was a Canadian employee and the package was generous. That's all you need to know.

I was escorted out after 17 years last year and it sounds like packages are all over the board. I was pretty happy with mine. I agree and think it would be bad form to get into too much detail, plus they make you sign an NDA.

To be honest it was really pretty generous.

@RxTJJQL-yrp Do you think they owe you a year of severance for your two years of service?

Labour laws are province/territory or state jurisdictions. So the amount of severance depends on where you live, and also on your age, and on how long you worked for the company. The more conservative the ruling party, the less rights workers typically have.

In Alberta, there were some changes effective January 1, 2018 since we now have a more socialist government. These are minimum severance amounts, but many large companies typically pay out more to reduce chance of lawsuits.

It really depends on which country you are in, and from which legacy company. The Spectra package is good for 18 months from the date of the merger. The details of that were given out pre merger. I did locate the Enbridge one on eLink right after the merger occurred. I don't know if it's still there. You can search eLink for it. The severance packages are an agreement, so they have to abide by them.

2 weeks per year of service, plus vacation accrued to date (minimal as it's January). And escorted out like a criminal

Divulging that would truly be bad form... they hired me as a professional and I chose to take my OWN intgrity and my OWN respect with me as i was escorted out. I hope my fellow formal coworkers did the same, and I just hope you dont find out first hand.
