Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

ATTN: LEAD-R-SHIP-you guys still read this post? Or has layoff.com jumped the shark for you too?

Concerning the SSR position. Come on, this has become this MOST non-needed position in the company. Our store has 2 full-time & there is less than 10 hours of work to be done a week. If they go to the door, which is not even necessary- because the store has become so slow, then the reps scatter like c---roaches which allows them to take 2- 45 minute breaks & a hour lunch. And store management? Forget it. They are on multiple food and Starbucks runs or catching up on social media and trying to stay under the radar of their management.

Something needs to give. Get rid of SSRs already- what's the hold up anyway? Dealers can get by without SSRs. Force the other WAY over paid personnel to do some real work. Or here's an idea! CLOSE THE STORE>

That’s ignorant. Maybe your store shouldn’t have two. There shouldn’t ever be that many breaks. As an SSR at my current store I do paperwork, returns, buybacks, change orders, all monthly counts.... cash, sim, device, and accessory count. I’m responsible for the demo device tracker which is a process in itself. I do all transfers, adjustments, receive all inventory, file all facility tickets, it tickets, handle merchandising, and resets. At our store when we are busy I sign customers in and take care of sims, billing, or returns so the reps don’t have to. I see tons of reps that clerk only. The problem isn’t the positions. It’s the lazy people that aren’t reprimanded and the poor management that allows it.

Wow. You sound like my old coworker who looked down on me and treated me like crap for my position till he realized how needed an SSR was. How ignorant of you. I’m sure with that attitude you will go far in life.

Really depends on the store, if a store only has 1 manager and ASM be hard to give proper floor coverage and tend to backend. With a busy store, you have multiple things that need to be performed or fixed. Acc, phone, SIM card count. Returns, paper work, buy back and trade in.

Assuming you do it correctly and actually check devices it’s very time consuming.

Obviously this all depends on the traffic of the store. Feb - Aug are typically some of the slowest months so down time is increased for almost everyone.

Can a store run with just SM and Asm. Yes.

Assuming you have the manager control the floor properly and essentially do line control.

I always felt SSR was under utilized for what it’s title was called. If not used for back end it should be used escalations and problem solving issues. This means the customer that comes in with a problem, instead of a sales rep dealing with it, the SSR should be the one to fix or help the issue. SIM card changes, billing issues, ect ect.

Management turned them more into their assistant for their duties.

The worst type of SSR is just one that is used to sign people in.

I don’t think a store needs more than 1. Maybe sm3 might need 2 during peak hours.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they eliminate the position in the stores that are moving to AR and keep it in the stores that will stay COR.

Might be closer than you think. Not one SSR job opening throughout the country listed on the AT&T website.
