ATT was already streamlined and got rid of several layers of management. Went through the restructuring process and was in good shape until SBC took over and brought T right back to the top heavy old Bell system that has more useless levels of management than necessary.

AT&T have like 7 or 8 level of managers / directors / AVP / SVP / and so on ... only level 1 and 2 do all the work !! But yet they are the first to be let go, threaten to be put on CAP plan then PIP plan .. ultimately forcing you to resign!!!!

AT&T is like a biggest WAVE and you can ride it for a long time but It Will Not push you all the way to shore ( retirement) ... you will have to swim the rest on your own !

Thanks at&t but some of your level 3 are USELESS ... need to fire them all and save $ billion !!!!!!!

Flattening the org chart is a way to increase the individual work load.

Donovan did this recently in other orgs. They demoted a lot of ADs to Leads. Got rid off a bunch of directors and increased the span of control to 10. In a nutshell, they basically demoted everyone 1 level. They basically eliminated the AD and AVP roles. Careful what you wish for. As a result, we are starting to lose many of our ‘A’ players since there are no career advancement opportunities. Why stick around and bust tail if there’s no reward at the end of the day? You are stuck where you are on the career ladder missing the next rung.

Technically, that’s exactly what they have been doing. Several SVPs and VP slots have been eliminated as Donovan pushes greater span of control. I would expect it to continue. You just can’t do it all at once.

They could get rid of half the management from 3rd level to 1st level and never miss a beat..guaranteed .

They could cut out three full layers of management and the only difference would be that AT&T would save billions of dollars a year. It seems like the job of Directors is to hide bad news from everyone above them.

I agreed. In my region there is one director and one AVP. I don't know who is doing what? Get rid of directors or AVP. Too many layers. If u want to be lean u cut off the fat and that starts with middle management. That also goes with other duplicate roles as well.

And you know this because?

How many and at what level would organise the corporation?

If you do not have a plan, then you are just part of the problem, and need to stop baiting people into being a victim.
