Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

It is to late for wireless to unionize. The company beat the workers down 20 years ago. One store won't get the job done. In order for unionization to work you need to be united. A critical mass is necessary, probably at least 50% of the stores. The company knows human nature well. They will use human frailties such as envy, pride, anger, and greed as tools to keep the employees divided pitting one group against another. Humans also hate confrontation. The company knows this as well. During the process of standing up for themselves and becoming unionized confrontations will occur. Many can't stomach this and would rather quit or move on. (Just move on to some other mediocre job instead of improving on the one they already have). The company has been very successful so far in their strategy. I see nothing on the horizon that would lead one to think anything will change any time soon. Maybe if some of the newer generation coming in grows a backbone there could be a reversal of fortune. For their sake I hope so.

Apparently there is a lot of union envy in this group.

Union never came into VZW making any promises. The reason folks at VZW voted for Union is because those members were tired of the processes and policies that weren’t employee friendly. These were the first steps into trying to generate change in a company that takes advantage of their frontline workers left and right.

Union didn’t make any agreement with VZW in terms of not touching “commission” they bargained with VZW who didn’t want to budge on anything for VZW workers( again because they dont care about their frontline workers). Had their been more members out on strike the contract would have been better. And granted they went without pay it was for a worthy cause. Union isn’t for everyone as proven some people just like not having a voice or say in their job and just want to keep chugging along., Others realize their full and true potential and realize they deserve a voice and say on the job as their the ones day in and day out making those sales and keep customers and products flowing left and right.

All the union has to do show VZW employees that AT&T Mobility employees are happy to pay dues for all the improvements the union got them. The union has represented employees at all AT&T Mobility stores for well over 10 years. The contracts have been renegotiated numerous times. The union still refuses to show VZW employees an honest side by side comparison of their pay, benefits, terms, etc., compared to union jobs at AT&T. That's because there is no union advantage. The biggest issue is that the union always accepts AT&T Mobility's demand that the union cannot stop the company from making changes to the commission plan it sees fit. The union was able to sign up one group of VZW store employees promising it would fix their commission plan issues. Employees voted the union in. Guess what? Aftet the union took the employees out on strike, the union agreed to a contract stating it can't touch commissions. Employees lost a couple weeks pay, the union failed to get them what it promised and it still collects dues from these employees. Bottom line, no matter how hard it gets for retail employees, even when the union lies and makes promises it can't keep, the union simply cannot convince enough employees it is the answer.

Allegedly. Just the sort of story that the misinformed thrive on. There isn't anything the union will do for you. But you new union members will make good pawns as they try to save their own skins and pad their nesteggs.

Call the Teamsters. The Bell System was threatened by workers, allegedly, years ago that they were going to switch to the Teamsters. Company settled.

No layoff clauses ended in 2003. New union members are not pension eligible. Yay, where do we sign up?

Its not great to work for becaus they’re working the frontline workers to death. Its not fair to frontline workers having crazy quotas, compensation changing all the time and having their workload constantly increase all while experience multiple rounds of layoffs and through all this Mcadams and his cronies keep on chugging along with their bonuses. Through all this too you have T Mobile offering amazing offers and pricing and VZW refuses to budge on anything, look how long it took to move on unlimited. VZW is ignorant, they dont know what customers want and they continue to work frontline workers to death while rewarding the top executives.

You have that reversed. VZW is in charge of the entire company now and is running it as if VZW was still a 1990's cash cow.

The only reason this is being talked about is because VZ wireline is being put in charge. VZW was a great place to work and unions weren't needed but now it is very bad. When you have wireline management in charge it all goes bad. Don't listen to any VZ wireline union pukes since they need a union to keep their jobs. VZ has lost money forever and VZW was the cash cow no longer due to VZ management. Quit and find a good company to work for.
