Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Co Manager Update

CoManagers, Thank you for a job well done, thru the Holidays and the Year!

These changes are coming about after you have worked extremely hard long, hours and taken time away from your family through the Holidays! Also, after you have probably given up PTO and time off through the year as well.

This is very confidential Information, and all have been threatened that if there is a leak and they can find the individual, they will be terminated. WOW!! What transparency! Maybe the new leadership should learn the Culture! Respect for the Individual, be honest, forth coming and keep the open discussion environment. The UNVARNISHED TRUTH should work both ways and not just up! Maybe your Regional, Market or Store Manager should look to trust in you and tell you the truth if not is this the type of Company that you want to work for?

The Unvarnished Truth!!

  1. Meetings held last Friday with all Mkt Managers, Mkt Human Resource Managers and all Store Managers. (Remember the level of talent in these positions: Several have never run stores at the Market level, but will be making the decision for the future!)

a. Talent discussions were held on all CoManagers. Very subjective discussions and not a very

level set meeting. A lot of favoritism, and buddy system playing out.

b. Not all of the best were selected, a lot of good talent will be lost in this process and not even

be retained as assistant managers. What a drain on talent again.

c. CoManagers were banded within the following catagories:

RED - Not retained or gets immediate severance pay and no time to look for a job. If you

have a coaching then you will fall into this category.

YELLOW - You will get an option to demote to an assistant manager; or 60 days pay and

severence.

GREEN - You will be offered a position. It may not be in your current store; or 60 days pay

and severence.

  1. All Regionals held a conference call with all Mkt Teams, Store Managers, and CoManagers. Basically gave the WalMart talking points.

a. Not a long term position, must be actively applying for stores and has a 3 year longevity.

b. Store Volumes and placement of CoManagers:

$80 million to $90 million dollars in sales = 1 CoManager position

$90 million to $125 million dollars in sales = 2 CoManager positions

$125 million and above in sales dollars = 3 CoManager positions

  1. All levels of management have been through this process Divisionals, Regionals, Mkt Managers, and their counter parts in Asset Protection, Health & Wellness, and Human Resources. (Though most at the Regional level above were given preference options).

  2. All the 1700 Assistant Manager positions that will be added will be in Online Pickup and Grocery Pickup and will not be immediate.

  3. There were Regional Hiring events for assistant manager placement back in November and December. Why if they new that this was coming? This was not dreamed up after New Years.

  4. The week of Christmas there was information that came out in reference to the Policy change on Voluntary Demotion Request regarding Management. Wow there must be a lot looking to get out. Now this change.

You should always be prepared with a resume and the leave for a better opportunity. A lot will stay through this process and be caught up in the same process in future years. Use your time to better yourself and get out of this Company and go somewhere that you will be valued.

GOOD LUCK and WISH ALL WELL with the outcome and the process!!

I think you don't have to take anything unless it's within 51 miles from your residence.

If you didn’t get an invite it’s because they still don’t know what is happening with everyone. Some are waiting for exceptions to be approved or denied (they filed exceptions to keep Co managers in some stores so that the stores don’t burn down by pulling 2-4 managers out). Supposedly on Friday we will be told to keep everything under wraps because they won’t be announcing to the stores until Monday.

Does anyone know if you will get 60 days to look for another job if you are offered a Co or Ast Mgr job and turn it down due to it logistically not fitting?? I know it sounds crazy to turn one down but my market is really spread out and I’m a home owner with family obligations.

Sorry, that sounds insane.

You s---....you get let go with severance.

You don’t s---, but don’t accept a position .... you get nothing

What about co managers that can not relocate

UPDATE - Correct if you have heard differently.

There are changes to the original post on your options by color classification.

Meetings today had changes to color classification. Several were changed at the meeting that the Mkt Mgrs had with the Regional Mgrs last week. A lot were changed in color classification. More will be lost than thought. Not as many Asst Mgr positions available. More will come from thinning asst Mgrs in the future.

Green offered a Comgr position - No severance.

Yellow offered an Asst Mgr position - No severance if offered a position.

Red will be terminated and given severance.

Keep posting any news to help all

Terminated Associates do not get severance. Displaced associates get severance. If you are terminated for performance reasons you don't get a dime except unemployment.

Definitely not negotiable. The benefit terms are on the wire under the severance policy. 2 weeks pay per full year working with the company plus 1 weeks pay per full 20,000 of your base salary. So that would basically be 3 weeks of pay added in.

Thank you, whom ever started this web site. This is the only information we have. That's all I wanted from the beginning was some sort of clarity on what was going on!!!

It seems like no one knows what the options are; and that’s the problem. They should have laid out the options during the initial call. Instead no one knows anything - job/no job, what severance might look like, how long to choose/if there is a choice, and what about the bonus. Even if I remain a co. It would have don’t no harm whatsoever to know the options while our placement is being discussed and decided. Instead we wait not knowing anything. I may very well remain a co, but I won’t stay for long. F--- it, I’m out.

Your missing the point. The position they may offer me may not be the one I have worked hard for over the years to get. I would be grateful for the job, but if it's not what I have worked hard for and sacrificed all my time for then why would they not pay me my severance pay since the job I was at was eliminated? Yet if you were horrible at your job and they cut you loose, then you get your severance package. Thats the point I'm making. Give the option if your offered a position to take it or part ways with a severance package, since your position is eliminated. Also think about this. You can only stay at the Co-mgr position for 3 yrs max. You have to be actively seeking a store. I get that, but forcing people to take stores in areas that they don't really want to be in is going to be a morale killer. Why root someone and their whole family up to be moved into areas that are not family friendly, if you know what I'm saying?

Dude, really? You get offered another position and you HAVE A FREAKING JOB. That is your reward. Obviously you think you are worth more so go find a job where they give you money for just being you and not working for it. Good luck with that...

This is morally wrong, to give someone a five minuet conversation telling them they may or may not have a job. We will let you know in two weeks. I am so mentally and physically. Ill over the waiting. Sleep is at slim. What happened to the company I have gave so many sacrifices for. How many Holidays or birthdays did I miss for this company? To end the five minuet call with during this time continue to greet our customers and thank them for shopping at Walmart.

Has anyone been in their one on one yet? Still want to know how the sevrance package is going to work. It reads on the wire that if you are offered a similar position that no severance package will be offered. What gets me is if you are not good enough to stay they will get rid of you and give you a severance package, but if you are good enough to stay and they offer you a similar position that you don't want, they don't have to give you severance pay. How much sense does that make? We will reward you if we don't like you, but if we decide to keep you to bad for you if you don't like the position. This whole thing puts a really bad taste in my mouth. I've been with the company for more than 20yrs and this just doesn't settle well.

It’s the two week wait that pisses me off the most. Frankly, I’m not worried about finding a job or even relocating. It’s going two weeks without knowing the options that’s the problem. They have absolutely no respect for the individual.

Why work in that environment?

Repost - @RiMIsjO-5vnw

Well stated below. The company has let this linger for two weeks with no answers, all the while people and their families and justifiably freaking out. "Am I going to have to uplift my whole family? Will I be given any options? Will positions be posted internally for me to apply for after this discussion? Will I be given a take it or leave it option? Will I be shipped off to a store nobody else wants to go to? Will I have any time to think about this potentially life-changing event? Do I need to apply at other companies? Will this affect my bonus? What if I have plans booked during or after this event takes place?". All legitimate questions that people must be asking themselves as they go through these two weeks of hell, especially for those with a family. Not a good way to handle this and certainly paints a bad image of the company that nobody seems to care about though.

Don't sell yourself short. Don't be afraid to change Companies or Career paths. You made it to that position for a reason. Don't be afraid to apply elsewhere as your skills are in demand at other Companies.

If you take another position with the Company you forfeit your severance.

Great loyalty! but the Company does not care about loyalty anymore.

Good luck on your decision.

I wonder if it would make sense to find an hourly DM role if no ASM is available and then move up again. Is it even worth it anymore

What are the requeriments to keep this position I wonder. What kind of rank you need to be at to not be fired??

Is this confirmed? MIP trackers has a ton of fine print staying that it can be amended and isn’t a contract.

I worry that most will end up losing a job completely. Very few ASM postings prior to all of this and WalMart creating an ASM looks unlikely if your store doesn’t have OGP

From a former co manager here ... and someone who has gone through layoffs with another company . Best thing that happened was when I quit Walmart ... that being said I’m sorry you are all going through this . However most likely 60% or so of this is true and the rest of the info people are posting is garbage , guessing or from a friend of a friend of yet another friend. You all need to prepare as if you are leaving regardless of the outcome so you are not surprised. There is nothing you can do to prevent your layoff if you are selected . Get your doctors appointments and medicines all taken care and anything else you need to address if you are out of work for a month or two .

Today, Wednesday 1/24/18 - Store Managers in meetings with Mkt Manager and Mkt HR to go over final placement banding approved by senior leadership. They will also discuss how to conduct conversations. Store managers were told to take Thursday off and then go in Friday and have the conversations with all those affected.

Next week a limbo week.

February 3 retained CoMgrs report to new location and role.

Assistant manager positions will be posted, though very few.

Take your time off and enjoy before the mayhem!!

Good luck to everyone.

No severance if a Comgr position is offered and is not over 50 miles away, clearly stated in the policy. There are not many assistant manager positions available as there was a major push to fill vacancies before the Holiday. Assistant manager positions may open as evaluation time hits. The 1700 asst mgr positions in the news will be new online grocery positions and will come on through out the year. Best advice below, record your conversation and ask questions during the meetings for clarity.

Bonuses will be paid out.

Not sure on the offerings of severance. I would recommend discretely recording your meeting on your cell phone. Just to ensure you have all information discussed with you.

Thanks for the info.

Market managers and store managers in meeting tomorrow to discuss the decisions from the rankings (who will move to where, who will be demoted and who will be let go). Store managers to be out of store or off on Thursday and return Friday to have the discussions and share the news.

Good luck.

Does anyone know if we will be given 60 days with pay to look for another job in the company if we are in group yellow? Or green if we reject the store they try to send us to? My market will only have 2 stores with Co’s And both are more than 150 miles away from my current store.

Talks will be happening Friday and Co managers will be placed in their new stores by February 3rd, unless you take the Severance. So that being said Co managers will receive the bonus they have worked so hard for all year.
