Comanagers - The Decision Time - January 24th 2018

The store managers are having the talks on the 24th and giving the comanagers two days to decide the options given. If you take severance you won’t be offered bonus since you will be terminated before the full one year of fiscal year. (Very smart of them).

If offered a demotion they will have to pay you your bonus since you’ll still be with the company. If wondering your amount for severance you can find it on the wire with the calculations needed to get an accurate amount.

I don't think it's right to let go long term associates that have no coaching and keep the co that does and has only been in their position a few month. Favortisum is playing a Hugh part of the this and it's wrong. MM and SM should be ashamed of them selves, this is our careers and our lives.

I have to agree with the post about the last 2 weeks. THEY HAVE BEEN HELL! As the wife of a co-manager who has worked his butt off to get where he is with the company this has to rank in the top 5 of most stressful times in our lives. The "not knowing" is horrible. I think that might be worse than just walking in and finding out you aren't coming back the next day. I've watched him work long hours and gone in on his days off more times than I can possibly count just to try to move up with this company only to find out that if he hadn't moved up he would still be guaranteed a job tomorrow. Absolutely ridiculous. How can a company of this size get rid of the ones that know how to run it to only give raises to the ones that call in every other day! Something is definitely wrong with this picture.

Well stated below. The company has let this linger for two weeks with no answers, all the while people and their families and justifiably freaking out. "Am I going to have to uplift my whole family? Will I be given any options? Will positions be posted internally for me to apply for after this discussion? Will I be given a take it or leave it option? Will I be shipped off to a store nobody else wants to go to? Will I have any time to think about this potentially life-changing event? Do I need to apply at other companies? Will this affect my bonus? What if I have plans booked during or after this event takes place?". All legitimate questions that people must be asking themselves as they go through these two weeks of hell, especially for those with a family. Not a good way to handle this and certainly paints a bad image of the company that nobody seems to care about though.

what if you already commute to your store? Say you travel an hour to you’re current store, but you are offered A job at a store 50 miles from that stores location ( and it’s further from your home)

Point is, if they offer a job that just isn’t reasonable as far as driving, and you cannot move at this time. What then? You turn it down, and you get no severance?!

So if you aren't picked for the co-manager spot do you stay in your store for the 60 days while finding another position in the company ?

From a former co manager here ... and someone who has gone through layoffs with another company . Best thing that happened was when I quit Walmart ... that being said I’m sorry you are all going through this . However most likely 60% or so of this is true and the rest of the info people are posting is garbage , guessing or from a friend of a friend of yet another friend. You all need to prepare as if you are leaving regardless of the outcome so you are not surprised. There is nothing you can do to prevent your layoff if you are selected . Get your doctors appointments and medicines all taken care and anything else you need to address if you are out of work for a month or two .

Does anyone know how PTO payout will play into severance? Walmart changed its policy a few years ago for Salaried Managers to be able to cash out PTO when leaving the company. Does severance exempt that?

So theoretically you could be given 60 days paid to find another powition, get your bonus since you're still employed, and I'd you don't fine another position, take severance at the end of the 60 days and get both your bonus and severance? But if they tell you you have to go to x, y or z store, they're technically offering you a position so you wouldn't be eligible for severance from the sounds of it. Correct?

Not true...get your facts straight.

  1. If your position is eliminated you will receive 60 days salary and time to look for another position.

  2. You are still officially employed during this time, although not working, and your time carries over past the 1st of February.

  3. Therefore you will receive your bonus.

  4. If the 60 days elapses and you have not accepted another offer within the company, you will sign your severance papers and receive the package and the payout (this is totally separate from your bonus).

  5. Typically If you are offered a position within the company, even a lower banded position, and chose not to accept that position may forego your severance. You will still receive your bonus. So be careful about negotiating for another position. Understand the terms.

  6. Many people are offered a lower position or the severance, your choice. Most people take the severance and parly their talent with the competition.

  7. If you choose to stay with a new position there will be no severance payment made to you. Severance - to severe - to cut off - gone.

  8. There is life after Walmart.

Yes, you will have that option if you decide to leave. Keep in mind you might be offered a store 50 miles away from your existing location so that could be a reason you turn it down
