Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Let set the record straight

All associates in the clubs that are closing are being paid for the next 60 days after the announcement. They can work for the next few weeks to help close their buildings down for extra pay in addition to or they can choose not to. Either way they get paid for 60 days.

This is really deceptive for new employees because I just found out that I get absolutely nothing except the hours I actually worked because I hadn't been with the company 90 days at the time my club closed. The company couldn't even be bothered to send me a letter. It's taken me a week of getting the runaround to ascertain that I get nothing.

Luckily my club in Edison NJ remained open...however the two clubs to the immediate north (Linden) and south (Princeton) are closing. Linden was shut immediately and no Linden associates were allowed back in the building. Managers and associates from surrounding clubs are distributing the merchandise that remains. However Princeton shut down and reopened the next day and will remain open until January 26 with shortened 10-6 hours...so one can speculate why these two stores shut down in different ways..but we will never know why it was done like this...

It differs from club to club I guess. I went to help the Jamestown NY club last Friday, their associates were working.

Wonder if the clubs where the associates were not allowed to help close the clubs were either under suspicion of stealing from the club or if they were trying to unionize?

There has to be a reason some were allowed to help close their club and some weren’t.

I guess it varies club to club. We had to send a few associates from our club to one that was immediately closed down because their associates were not allowed back into the club after they were told first thing in the morning they no longer had a job.

I am an associate at a closing club. I am still working in my club until it closes.... it’s going to be a club by club situation on who is working or not...

Just to be clear I am not wrong. I am one of the associates that’s helping close down one of the clubs. Most of the associates that are working in the building are from the club that is currently closing. Please stop speculating and listening to nonsense. This is a tough situation for those involved and we don’t need to be making things worse by pretending to know what’s going on. Sam’s Club is doing everything that it can to make the transition as easy as possible for the affected ASSOCIATES.

That is wrong a buddy of mine went to shut down a club and there were some of there associates working.

And as far as your 12 weeks if you used pto time for the holidays that does count as work time.

Didn't you people get a packet in fed-ex? I got it as soon as I got home from the announcement.

Here are some quotes from the packet.

"You will receive transition pay beginning January 11th or until you transfer to a new Sam's club or other Walmart facility. If you do not transfer to a new Sams Club or Walmart facility, March 16th will be your last day of employment with Sam's Club."

"You will no longer report to work unless otherwise directed by your manager. You will continue to be paid bi-weekly based on your 12 weeks average hours as of January 5th, 2018. "

**Isn't it funny how they calculate weekly average after only allowing us to work 4 days on the weeks of thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years?

I was told by one of the "Important people" that announced the closing that for the next two weeks prior to the building closing its doors to the public that any hours we worked, though not required to do so, would be pay in addition to the transition pay.

You are wrong!!!! I was ask to go to one of those clubs to help close it down. They (Home Office ) has 6 to 7 associates form every surrounding clubs to close these down because they will not let the former associates go in and help. You are right about them getting the pay for the next 60 days!
