Tech-Ops Surplus

Surplus notices going out on 03-05-18 (Monday). Those identified as surplus to be notified by a phone call from their supervisor. You will have a choice of departing by end of March with Severance pay, or electing to stay on for a 60 day period to seek internal opportunities. Approximately a 6-7% force reduction. Good Luck to all.

Are there any technicians being surplussed this time around, or is it only management this time? Is this Dave Cundiff's organization?

Another note- be careful counting on unemployment and check your state’s policy. I’m not rich, but I would get the max unemployment amount they pay out - which isn’t enough to live on. Also, if you get a part time job, they reduce the weekly unemployment amount you receive. So it could tide you over a month or two, but would be losing a significant amount of money each month. (Which I suppose is the actual point of the program- to tide you over a few months)

TechDev = Technology Development. The #1 person who needs to get walking papers in TechDev is Satish, and quickly before he does any further damage. Numerous good people are suffering due the incredible incompetence of this one individual.

Tech-Ops = Technology Operations. If you were not in an impacted work group and we’re not invited to a notification meeting a few weeks ago indicating that your work group was impacted, then the surplus mentioned does not apply to.

Dont worry about finding a job internally if you do not want one the 60 days is basically the time needed to hand off your work instead. Most of the job applications will be ignored just sayin. Best of luck to all

Thanks *-.ifp

As far as I am concerned I'd be fine with an offer at same level with no relo. I'd take it and wait for another surplus if it comes to that. Sad to hear that CA is so intolerant about the unemployment situation. It makes no sense given how liberal they are overall. Like I said, I could be wrong about GA but I recently read some of their rules and interpreted it to mean that you can apply for unemployment within 21 days after being off payroll. Obviously you have to prove that you are actively seeking work. I'd have to research more to understand if it is ok to wear bunny slippers to interviews so as to guarantee NOT being offered a job. More to follow....

One point to note. If you elect to stay on for the 60 day period and you get a job offer at same level and no relocation is required you must accept the offer or you will in effect have resigned and waive your right to severance. So think twice before making the decision especially if you wish not to stay and would like to leave with the severance package.

I guess I need to download the Severance Plan PDF. I didn't think it holds the severance money hostage if you take the 6 month option. Unemployment is insurance and you and AT&T have been paying into that tax since date of hire. It's not a handout. You should get what you already paid into it but that isn't how our debt laden government works. I'm surprised that CA wouldn't let you claim it... severance or not. GA does from my understanding. No point in fretting about it now I guess. If it happens on Monday they already know who's heads are on the chopping block right this second. Maybe not your supervisor but definitely HR. God speed everyone! I miss the old days when attrition more than covered these reductions in headcount. Now it's borderline malicious. Stay blessed.

I say milk the cow x2 months, if job is offered and you don't want the position (they want you to get it to fire you later on) so bye bye severance, also unemployment is tricky. Some states like .CA don't do it, if you receive severance

Choosing the 60 option doesn't effect the severance package right? I think the rule is that you get so much pay as severance based on your tenure. The max is 6 months pay at 15 years of NCS. That's the official Management plan so I think you can still choose to stay on board and look for opportunities without sacrificing your severance right? If you don't find a new position internally within 60 days you still get the severance the way I understand it. I also was told that you can still file for unemployment once you're off payroll. Anyone care to comment further?
