I wouldn’t be so confident in our union! The pre tech jobs saved in MO(dist 6) were told 2 weeks later that they would have to follow the work. Basically, move to New Mexico or Texas. What a emotional roller coaster! I feel for the appendix J employees. The union allowed the company to create this built in doomed for failure title. The obvious remedy for this would have been creating additional CST titles in the beginning, not divide and concurring tactics that where embraced by our union figure heads. IBEW and CWA are playing checkers when the game is chess. Not much hope for us blue collars.

This started with the console operator job title the union allowed the company to get into the contract then the leveraged service rep. Two tier job title for basically same job title/description. The people bargaining out contracts can’t see past the end of theirs nose and what the big picture is. Once you allow this crap into the contract you will never get it out
It always comes down to the "needs of the business". Anything the company wants to do can be justified with that statement. It amazes me how may people think the Unions exist to protect or save your jobs when the company decides they want to layoff. They can't.
Unions may be necessary, but they're killing themselves by sticking to old ideals and arguments that no longer apply to the 21st Century. Why -- honestly -- any young person would want to join a union, I have no idea, they are the bait, and the first ones to go in surplus times, which are very quarter
If you want more money, 'go somewhere else'
You negotiate with your feet. If you are treated worse than market value, you go somewhere else. In times like now when everyone's market value is less, and there are fewer options, you take what you get and you like it. When times get better, that is when you get your due.
Companies that don't pay their people what they are worth go out of business. Companies that pay their people more than they are worth go out of business even faster.
Trump and the Republicans are saving the economy, soon there will be plenty of work for all and T will start hiring again! Future is bright!
IBEW was forced to follow in the CWA's footprint, or the company was ready to bring in the CWA to do the work. The CWA BTW would have been happy to do it, too. More members = more dues money for the democrats. IMHO!
