Was told by someone who works for Walmart that they were called to office one by one. Told they had til April 13 to find something else. All original door greeters have to reapply for these positions In other wards they will need to be able to tackle people. They are still going to have people at door but they are called asset protection new job name! Sounds like another age discrimination layoffs. They were told that theft was so high they will have two on each door.

Went to Walmart yesterday first time ever was not greeted at door and told have a nice day when I left. Person just stood there chatting to other staff. Ugh, was the only nice thing about going to Walmart!
I have a family member with a neurological disorder who has been a greeter (plus more) for over 20 years who is now facing unemployment. This is their only source of income, and while it has not been a great paying job, this "layoff" could be the difference between having a roof over their head or not.

This is TERRIBLE!!! Old people Depend on this Position for income and public socialization! Age Discrimination!!!!!! Had these Old people known years ago, they could have secured a more permanent, dependable job!!!!! Walmart S---s!!
Walmart has always been about profit. No thought given to mom & pop businesses, opening stores in rural areas & then closing them or their employees. And now laying off thousands of the most vulnerable among us. Will never never never shop at Walmart again. Will encourage others to do the same.
I have not seen a door greeter in quite a while. I have heard about a lot of theft occurring at Walmart and in retail in general and now we have a security person at the door. Today when I was at my local Walmart store in Monticello New York I was assisted in the dressing room area by a person who was on crutches.
Stores take into account the amount of thefts up there store and take that into account for their pricing. The more thefts at a store the more we pay for our items.
There are always two sides to a situation that we must take into account and I wish everyone the best.
They want us to apply for the new Asset Protection Customer Host, doesn’t mean we’ll get it or be approved for accommodations until the interview process. They have not mentioned a reassignment position. Act as though we are new hire! Hopefully they get their head out of the sand and stand by the employee and assist with keeping us instead of the odious good luck awe shucks!
Stop all the hate that is hitting the store he works in. None of them or Management have nothing to do with it. Go after corporate, where it all begins. XX loves his store and everyone that works there. It’s his family after 18 years of dedication to Walmart. I hope and pray that corporate sees things now, so that all jobs like XX's and others with disabilities will be saved, from XX, IL to the west coast and to the east coast.

These layoffs are awful!
The greeters have been a pleasant part of keeping the store feeling local and friendly, now seniors and special needs employees with decades of service are being eliminated for additional security?
Their security may have actually been improved if they didn't announce the change, or if they increased their undercover security, or any other numerous ways.
Corporation higher ups are out of touch! :(

Yup, got called into office and told no job after April 26. Get rid of us!
