What happened to the EPO?

If they company wants to get rid of people why are they not making Enhanced Pension Offers (EPO) like they have in the past?

Exactly. There is no need to have EPO's when they just run you out the door....

My opinion, feedback and theory on the Enhanced Pension Offer (EPO) offer issued just a few years ago. I believe the company was trying to lock-in pension obligations for those who accepted and took the EPO offer before the Life Expectancy Actuarial tables were modified and took effect (longer Life Expectancies), which had the effect of Increasing the Lump Sum Pension Obligations. I believe the offer came out prior to these changes. If you had an EPO offer it was clearly stated you had to commence you pension immediately and accept the EPO Pension amounts offered. That all being said, the time period has come and gone, and I believe there will be no more EPO type offers. If anything the company could at some point in the future close out the Pension plan, Cash everyone out and eliminate their Pension Obligations going forward. I have not heard anything to this effect, but we are still fortunate to even have a Pension Plan to those who are still eligible. Seems the trend is to solicit volunteers by surveys on those impacted in Surplus situations and take Severance, if your are ready and willing to leave.

I wonder how many people will leave after the bonus payout?

Same boat Brother, being the go-to-guy for solutions and technical insights is booming work. If I was offered EPO I would be out the door in a flash.

I wonder if having an unhappy workforce is a part of Randy's A&D? If so, he is exceeding his goals.

I'm old and I'm experienced and I'm waiting for an Enhanced Pension Offer (or any other wonderful retirement offer) but nothing is on the horizon for me because I'm old and I'm experienced and thus I can fix problems that those who are young and inexperienced cannot, and the PTB are aware of this hence no EPO (or whatever) will be forthcoming, at least for quite a while.

EPO would encourage long time, better paid employees to voluntarily leave, that is the value of it to the company. It chips away at the higher end of the pay scale.

But I agree, GTFO seems to be the standard in this wonderful company.

EPO is replaced with GTFO package.

Why would AT&T offer an EPO when they could just surplus? There’s no benefit for AT&T in offering more money than it needs to.
