Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

SSR Headcount lowering

Any news on when this is happening, last I heard this month they were going to be lowering headcount, and not a total layoff.

Many if not most COR locations are going to be sold to AR and the SSR position doesn’t exist in AR so every ssr in stores being sold will have to be laid off or moved to an RSC position before the transition. The stores that are sold and the employees in those store will no longer be covered under the union contract. Authorized retailers are prepping to do comp changes to more closely align with The COR comp structure.

I think at this point everything is uncertain. I hear what you all are saying, but in my area, they have already started sneakingly placing full-time and part-time SSRs in RSC positions within the last 3 weeks, all b/c of all the talk of what’s going to happen to SSRs. I don’t think either is safe full time or part time. So these people that think they know what they talking about or heard, it is just that! And from what I’m reading on this post, it seems as if each region/area do things a little different. No one knows for certain what is going to happen, I just wish everyone stop with what they heard or know. Because we all can be without a job.

ASM = management

SSR = non-management (union)

Both have a set of rules that they go by when a surplus,layoff or workforce adjustment happens.

If a SSR layoff (workforce adjustment) happens, and they just lower headcount, it ONLY goes by seniority.

This isn’t an discussion. This is how it’s required by contract and therefor by law.

Management is pretty much up to higher ups who goes or stays. Performance helps, but means a lot less because in the end if you are well liked, and hit your numbers you make the cut.

If they lower a title by numbers , part timers will go first. That’s how it goes, the rest will be asked to volunteer and if the number is still too high, it will go by hire date, with last to be hired, will be the first to go. It’s one of the contract rules that were negotiated by union and pretty standard for most of them even out of AT&T.

The biggest thing to help some of the SSRs is that AT&T will be required to offer the surplused employees a job. So if they lower SSR headcount, a body will replace them as a RSC or Part-Time.

Now that RSCs are almost getting paid similar hourly, odds are it will be part time to save money.

I’d personally take the severance at that point

At the end of the day many of us will be without jobs, no matter full time or part time, because we still don’t know if they are going to eliminate the position all together or have 1 per store or 1 for every two stores. There’s no need to go back and forth, because we all are in the same boat!

That’s why I said in the area I work. They are scheduled Monday-Friday 8-5, and part-timers work the nights and weekends. And we have 2 former SSRs who are now RSC’s, that was part of the first time they surplused them and they tentured and still surplused. Just like when the ASMs where surplused, seniority didn’t have anything to do with it. There were ASM’s with the company from 3 to 10 years surplused. Therefore SSRs are not the exception to the rule. AT&T is not faithful to no one, whether full-time, part-time, management or non-management.

Unforunitly, you heard wrong.

It will and HAS to be based by seniority,

They have to lose part timers before they lose full timers. If a store has multiple SSRs they will lose one. Especially if one has nothing to do in the back. If all back end issues are done, they should be on the floor helping.

How are they 8-5? Counts should only be done once a month unless a higher up like a DoS Is saying otherwise.

Seems managers are not utilizing the position correctly.

The sad thing about it is that in the area I work, the more tenured SSRs, the ones who consider themselves a "backend SSR", work 8-5, Monday-Friday and don't work weekends, and sit in the back office all day (it's not that much to do in the back all day every day), think that they are safer then the part-timers who can do the work and is more flexible. When you go to many of the stores in the area I work, many of the part-timers are clueless on how to do their job, because they keep them at the door and now they are at a larger risk of losing their jobs. So if part-time SSRs who know how to do just as much a full-timer, don't stress yourself b/c I was told that managers and ARSM's will have a say in who is selected. Trust this is not based on seniority, even though some full-timers want you to believe that. Many things will factor in the decisions. I have always thought surpluses was a way to clean house and get rid of people that is otherwise hard to get rid of....just saying.

Would really s--- to have a layoff for SSRs again, after they had one 3 years ago.

Last time they gave us 6 months notice last time. I was planning to leave till the last week when a a lot magically opened at the last minute.

Yep, rumor has it that there are basically going to be 1 SSR for every 2 to 3 stores depending on the area and size of store, basically a floating SSR. A lot of the back office work that SSRs do will be obsolete or delegated to managers. So the floater will do things that can’t be handled systematically. And I heard all this from someone in upper management and they also said that a majority of the part-timers will be let go, especially if you been with the company less than a year. This s---s for me because I’m part-time and have been a SSR for about a year. The bad thing about it, is that I also heard that some will be offered RSC positions and that’s only if they are available and I’m sure they will have their pick of who they will give these positions to. In my area their have not been any reps hired at any of the 6 stores in the last year. And many stores are over their headcount for reps.....this really s---s!

There is only 1 part time SSR position across the company. Doesn't seem like a good sign
