Receive a email to attend a layoff call at 12:30 PM tomorrow. It's crazy that this is the new normal and gotta wait and see if you have a job or not every quarter . How can an employee work under these conditions knowing that your livelihood is always being questioned.

It's first level managers in my group that are getting hit. Not making the big bucks that's for sure.
It's only for Managers, haven't heard of any associates, contractors, or regular employees getting surplused so far. Lay Offs are generally for those upper managers close to retirement or making a too high of a salary
For the call I was invited to today (for the TP&E-GLOBAL TECH PLANNING & PROJECT MGT Department), the target workforce is management.
are these surpluses only on a managerial level? Are associates being canned too? It seems to me like only upper level managers are being laid off since they are the ones earning more $$$. Anyone care to clarify?
Very sad this is going on. 80 thousand unemployed and a billionaire made been more rich
@RB0JU9U-1spk ... The official metrics for picking folks for surplus are: performance, skills, leadership, and experience. I was merely stating what the official company line is on that. Certainly if you have built up relationships with any senior manager that can "protect" you, you'll be a step ahead. What you are seeing now though, with all of the layoffs over the last couple years and the subsequent and inevitable reorganizations that follow, is that "protection" may be harder to come by. People are assigned to new teams/ managers frequently. You may be completely squared away, but you don't want to be in a position of being the "new guy" on a team that has been intact and working together for sometime. If they need one person from that team, in all likelihood it will be you. And they just don't discuss the metrics at that point. I have seen a lot of people upset when they got the news, demanding to see the analysis that led to them being the chosen one. Of course, the company will not and has no obligation to share how they arrived at the decision.
Does anyone actually believe the Cheeto in Chief actually gives a flying f--- about keeping jobs in America? The media is more focused on his latest rhetoric rather than bringing up people losing their jobs to other countries.
S---s for all those involved. However, as a former Verizon employee I have to say I like the idea of having this surplus call, it gives you time to Get your parachute packed. At Verizon they keep you in the dark for as long as possible, like mushrooms. Then it’s all rumors and innuendo and reading about your eventual demise on this site. Good luck to all affected.
You are fired! Donald Trump.
Corporations are going over seas because they can pay lower wages, it has nothing to do with superior technology in India.
@RB0JU9U-1tni - the only thing to report here is that the new technology and jobs are over in india . even if you do have the skills, it will be done in india sooner or later.
Its all about the money, and its cheaper to keep jobs overseas rather then place people into new jobs...yes jobs shift, change and become obsolete but the people don't have too... and the new management ranking system proves that we are just cogs lucky to have a job
Based on performance , skills experience? I don’t think so. It’s who you know unfortunately.
@RB0JU9U-1dtr ... Nothing to report here. Move on along. AT&T is cutting jobs due to the major technological changes taking place with the company. Many positions are becoming obsolete. It has nothing to do with the economy, which by the way, is much better than it was a year ago. #100
What cities or metros will be affected? I do not work for AT&T but I run a blog that aggregates layoffs. If you guys tell me what cities may be affected I can go and geo target visitors to tell them what's going on - you don' have to disclose any confidential info to me, just tell me what cities or metros are affected and it makes easier for me.
The only objective I have is to tell people that things are not that rosy in the economy as CNBC and the media are trying to portray it - just look on dailyjobcuts.com or on this site how many people are loosing their jobs every day.
thank you!!!
It sounds like some of you don't understand the process. There will never be a VP level call where they tell you that you are either "safe" or "surplussed". The VP level calls are only to inform you if you are in the affected workgroup. That's it. That does not mean either that you will or will not be surplussed, it means that there will be people in your large organization that will be surplussed. There are 0 (zero) specifics on numbers. They don't start to get an idea of the number they need to cut until after they get the "interest in leaving" surveys back, and over the next couple weeks they will start to develop a target and work with Directors and AM's to identify the team members that will be surplussed (presumably using the performance/ skills/ leadership/ experience metrics). You'll find out if your surplussed in early March. Until then, thanks for all that you do and you're all terrific. Stay focused out there people.
Bow the Magic Question? "What happened to the 7,000 working boots due to the Tax Cut?"
Cundiff Org was untouched.
All that money in tax breaks and yet 1st quarter layoffs already... This is the republicans economics at work... F--- AT&T and all the greedy bastards running this country
C and E mobility central region calls taking place today. Seems like it is a quarterly norm going forward. Same two types of calls, you made it, or the next call is the bad news.
Same story as before. No comment on numbers and nobody is talking at this point.
I made it, I am thankful and hope the final numbers are small
They are surplussing American jobs and steady keeping off shore jobs when off shore had a mandatory break 2 months ago doing absolutely nothing. This is very heartbreaking the company is doing this .
Pretty much exactly as expected from AVP Jason Porter's (VP-GLOBAL TECH PLANNING & PROJECT MGT) call at 12 PM EST. All on call are in affected workgroup. Will be surplussing "certain domestic management positions". No specifics on numbers. "Interest in leaving" survey to go out later today. Over the next couple weeks they will be determining who gets the axe based on "performance, skills, leadership, and experience". Early March notification to those who are getting surplussed. Last day on payroll will be May 4 for those wishing to have 60 days to find another job (good luck with that), March 26 for those that don't. Call lasted 10 minutes, script was read with no Q & A allowed.
It's back on again.
That's true about the Cundiff organization. There were directors name listed , application managers and everything .. afterwards he quickly cancelled the meeting. So what does this mean .. that was the layoff call or the safe one?!
I heard the Cundiff Org had a meeting scheduled, then folks were added, and you could see those names, followed by the entire meeting being cancelled.
That's torture.
Why do they have the calls in the afternoon and torture folks? Have them in the morning! Have some professionalism and empathy people! Remember ‘msnagers you’re day will come too regardless of level.
I don't think they go by end of the year results anymore it's really a popularity game to not get laid off. This company transformed into a company that you cannot retire here .. it's a short term job unless you gather some programming skills and work yourself to death to stay relevant
Because #HopeAndChange didn't come with downsizing cuts, right? Sheesh.... Let's all agree to keep the politics out of the thread and post layoff info not rhetoric.
Not my experience, I was invited to the call and was cut.
If you received a good end of year you usually don’t have anything to worry about. Those who do the bare minimum will be surplussed.
Have none of you been through this before? I am not in C&E but I am Mobility management. I have an invite for a 12PM EST call. If it goes the way it has in the past, they will tell us we are in the workgroup targeted for surplus and nut much else. Over the next few weeks they will go through the process of identifying who they will can to hit the target % they have been given. By whatever date they identify they will have to have the surplus letters to those folks, who will then have 60 days to find a job that likely doesn’t exist, then they will be gone. The whole thing is tedious and makes it very hard to focus on your job. But it’s the new norm. The job market has improved but some of us with 20 plus years need to try and stick it out, frustrating as this process is.
Employees nationwide are impacted not a specific region
This is a Management call. So there's a 1:00 PM call , 12:30 PM call and I guess a 12:00 PM call.
Are you saying some received an invite and others didn’t!
What area?
What about the 1:00 PM EST call? Did anyone get an email inviting them to that call?
Why would they do emails to construction and engineering? Is this for managers or managers being notified for their crew surplus or not that CE and something else maybe???
@yvc typically the first call is for the folks who will be laid off
There's some people being invited to a 12 PM EST call. Any idea which call is the safe one? (12 PM vs 12:30 PM)
Construction & Engineering
