Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Top Secret information on upcoming changes.

Sam’s Club will cut all optical departments and optical will become third party only. National vision INC will be the vendor who takes over all optical centers.

Photo centers will not be put into any new club built, remaining clubs with photos centers will adapt to be mostly self serve only, reducing hours for now and eventually cutting all hours in photo.

Mobile/cell phone Department is being evaluated to also go full third party, If so, wireless associates will be allowed to sign up for open positions in the club.

Cost analysis and studies are being done to provide estimates on if it would be cost effective to run 3rd party pharmacies, it is also probable that Pharmacies will be ran by third party.

Membership managers will be given the option to sign up for the new grocery manager position that will be posted after the end of the year. Basically the entire marketing department will be eliminated: membership lead, coordinator and champ. Membership is another position where as much as possible will be outsourced 3rd party.

Asset Protection Manager will get a restructure to another title, which will be Experience Protection Manager; Positions are already currently being posted online for market and regional experience protection positions. This position will focus less on theft and compliance and more on operations. EPM will also fully take over the TEO Department. Home office will use cost lessening cheaper labor positions to do remote monitoring in clubs instead of AP monitoring cameras.

New changes to associate scheduling are coming. Associates will have more flexibility to choose which shifts they want to work and will no longer be forced to work shifts that they do not want.

Overnight stocking is going away for the format similar to Costco, (late shift, early shift stocking)

Remaining Jewelry leads will be eliminated as clubs transition to the new jewelry layout.

A high percentage of clubs will increase self-checkouts and drive higher scan and go execution with an end goal of reducing cashier positions and hours

PTC position will be mostly eliminated however there is talk of having a few PTC trainers similar to the Wal-Mart academy trainers. A lot of the personnel work will be outsourced to GSS.

Changes to the Tobacco area are coming, Tobacco may be eliminated in some or all clubs but for the clubs that remain, they will no longer be allowed to count tobacco on the sales portion of the goals for manager bonus and Sam’s share bonus.

Receiving is still up in the air, being discussed is removing fulltime associates, Receiving lead, office associates, etc. and only claims and 1 part time associate will remain in that area.

Studies are being done for productivity, more areas in the club, managers and associates will be tracked and held accountable for not being productive in their area.

I heard about this new last fall 2018. I used to be a membership coordinator, I transfer over to bakery II . There is still a person team lead membership, but he doesn't know his position is being away with. yet. He barely goes out anymore, I see him working on the floor, like the rest of the associates. Also, I noticed that I am barley earning PTO, instead I earn more on unplanned pto, and I am full time.

I think that UPPERHEAD in ARKANSAS need to come in to some of the clubs in Florida and come as a diguise to see what REALLY happens in the store. Just to prove that some of the Coast shouldn't be COSs and see how everyone gets treated by upperheads ....

Funny thing is that the COS's now do the cash office, and it was the COS's who was cause out club to lose $25,000 in the month of May. There is also a COS who I suspect does things wrong to create economic opportunities for the woman who share cash office duties with me. Amazingly, the club allowed her to handle money on the floor and work in the back office. The last day I worked it the club was down $450.00 for the day, the only cash she handled for the day. Coincidence?

Club 6315 most people were given no choice of anything said we were on a hiring freeze but they are hiring people full and part time. Not postings jobs in the club said we would have jobs opening May 25 for people. How’s that going to happen when they are filling positions now.

I work in overnight stocking, and was just told last night hours are being changed from 3am until noon or 4am to 1pm... effective in June or July..obviously that won't work for me or other single parents with our kids...wish I had known about before being hired in November! Ugh, back to the drawing board 😒

Yeah the only thing the original poster got wrong its that they decided to not go with the name experience protection manager and they went with grocery compliance manager instead, other than that it has been pretty spot on so you gotta assume that the rest of the cuts are coming as well.

I can definitely see the marketing positions go away and the membership champion too. Not so sure about membership going all the way away. Maybe they will just deal with refunds and exchanges. Pretty soon it will be too many managers and no one to manage.

Our club is one of the top clubs in the region and the volume of freight we receive is enormous. There is no way that it is possible for this club to run with the rumored cuts to night crew and receiving. I can see it working at slower noise ordinance clubs, but simply impossible here.

This post is slightly accurate, but some of it is just a rumor. Receiving-going away PTC-going away Membership positions-going. Other positions are restructuring but that’s it. Wireless just a rumor Optical and Pharmacy just a rumor. Photo is not a rumor the company has been honest about their plan with photo all along.
