Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Top Secret information on upcoming changes.

Sam’s Club will cut all optical departments and optical will become third party only. National vision INC will be the vendor who takes over all optical centers.

Photo centers will not be put into any new club built, remaining clubs with photos centers will adapt to be mostly self serve only, reducing hours for now and eventually cutting all hours in photo.

Mobile/cell phone Department is being evaluated to also go full third party, If so, wireless associates will be allowed to sign up for open positions in the club.

Cost analysis and studies are being done to provide estimates on if it would be cost effective to run 3rd party pharmacies, it is also probable that Pharmacies will be ran by third party.

Membership managers will be given the option to sign up for the new grocery manager position that will be posted after the end of the year. Basically the entire marketing department will be eliminated: membership lead, coordinator and champ. Membership is another position where as much as possible will be outsourced 3rd party.

Asset Protection Manager will get a restructure to another title, which will be Experience Protection Manager; Positions are already currently being posted online for market and regional experience protection positions. This position will focus less on theft and compliance and more on operations. EPM will also fully take over the TEO Department. Home office will use cost lessening cheaper labor positions to do remote monitoring in clubs instead of AP monitoring cameras.

New changes to associate scheduling are coming. Associates will have more flexibility to choose which shifts they want to work and will no longer be forced to work shifts that they do not want.

Overnight stocking is going away for the format similar to Costco, (late shift, early shift stocking)

Remaining Jewelry leads will be eliminated as clubs transition to the new jewelry layout.

A high percentage of clubs will increase self-checkouts and drive higher scan and go execution with an end goal of reducing cashier positions and hours

PTC position will be mostly eliminated however there is talk of having a few PTC trainers similar to the Wal-Mart academy trainers. A lot of the personnel work will be outsourced to GSS.

Changes to the Tobacco area are coming, Tobacco may be eliminated in some or all clubs but for the clubs that remain, they will no longer be allowed to count tobacco on the sales portion of the goals for manager bonus and Sam’s share bonus.

Receiving is still up in the air, being discussed is removing fulltime associates, Receiving lead, office associates, etc. and only claims and 1 part time associate will remain in that area.

Studies are being done for productivity, more areas in the club, managers and associates will be tracked and held accountable for not being productive in their area.

If the CEO president who ever they are would visit these clubs unannounced they would understand, it’s easy flying around sitting in your big executive chair and thinking all is well, think again. The morale in every club is gone people do what they want no consequences. Let’s think here if you constantly have eliminations of departments and long term you eventually don’t give a f---. The associates are the backbone of what used to be a thriving company. All I have is pity and despair for this broken and heartless company. Last year when they stole how they did vacations, sick hours, and holiday pay. They’ve been eliminating departments and people constantly but expect you to be upbeat. Happy to help f--- you over for the holidays.

I doubt all of this happens, but guarantee the hourly positions will be eliminated are receiving lead/office, membership lead & PTC. MOST PTC’s are pot stirrers & need to go. GM’s are being assessed right now also... if they can replace them, trust me they will.

BOYCOTTING is the best way to send them the message that they are hurting the economy and families. My opinion is if you have been let go just stop shopping their stores and if enough of you do this it may send a message.

I've been with the company for almost 20 years. I've seen alot of change...never for the better of associates or customers. All I can say is, if I lose my job, I will ride that unemployment train as long as possible, and will not spend one dime in a WM or Sam's club, nor will my family.

I definitely look forward to riding that unemployment train. So sick of being in this circus. Ready to GO

Regardless of how well one works or lack of, your position is not permanent. Re-structuring is a common practice in the corporate world. It's your responsibility to keep your eyes and ears open. Watch the changes and take the rumors seriously. When Roz left the company abruptly, it was evident that a major re-structure was on the way. Our time and half was eliminated, our holiday pay was stopped, our annual reviews were changed without a pay increase for those exceptional workers. We now have PTO with only 2% annual increase. These were changes that was reluctantly accepted. It is disturbing when you are personally effected. After 25+ years of blood, sweat and tears the thanks we get is "Great job, however you're full-time and your position has been eliminated or cut to part time! Are you willing to step down?" It's up to you to decide if this company is one that you can be loyal to. This company has no loyalty to you!! Forget about longevity. This apparently is a curse. First 5 is not going to help us to keep up with Costco.

Lmfao really people you sheep will believe anything that is posted on this site wont you? I don’t know who is worse the dumb a-- who post the lies or the one who believes it. Why worry over the job cuts or company changes in the first place you can’t change what is going to happen so just accept it. If you have done a good job for the company and have high standards for success then you will land on your feet with another company. For those slackers who Show up late to work or play the system and don’t take care of the members then you deserve what you get. Plus who ever posted about the company closing 100 stores get real! maybe they should close a few stores that are not performing I can think of several clubs the Raleigh NC, Lumberton, Rockhill SC, Columbia SC, Florence SC, Alabama stores I can keep going because these stores are the ones you always hear bad stories from, how those Market managers still have a job is beyond me.

You know this is all BS, right? It’s close enough to the truth to SEEM real, but it’s BS. Until it happens, it’s RUMOR. You know who I think is doing this? Labor Union. Wasn’t someone on here recently talking about Costco?

Please. Gimme a break.

Probably means they can’t have a forklift on the sales floor after 7am without two spotters. If they don’t have a forklift on the floor at all after 7am then they must either have a night crew full of wizards and magicians or they’re a club that’s so slow that they’ll be shut down due to low sales anyways.

In what club are you that can't drive forklifts past 7am? We have them out at least 3-5 times a day to drop couches, more candy for business members, out of stock items, etc. I am always dropping something during open club hours.

They are 100% correct the company will also be closing 100+ non profitable clubs, if your club did not receive a cash recycling machine your on the list, hints why there are no merch ops positions available or MIT positions and why all mangers had to take a survey recently on how they feel about relocating and their skill sets.

Giselle and John must be getting paid by whatever company they are gonna work for next to run Sam’s club into the ground in less than 5 years.

Funny how the most important part of Giselle’s idiotic First 5 is being friendly. I’ve yet to witness any piece of technology get on a lift and drop furniture for an impatient member and load it into their vehicle with a smile on its face.

If those are the only receiving hours who is going to put all that stuff in the steel??.....It is a physical impossibility for one full timer ( the night manager / new rec, lead ) and a part timer to do all of receiving....plain and simple ...it is impossible.....so either the info we are getting here is BS or there is a lot of miscommunication or the people making decisions are all blithering idiots or....the company is trying to tank Sams without it being obvious they did so........when we opened our club 20 plus years ago we had two unloaders , two verifiers , and two office people.....there was plenty of work for all......over the years it got reduced two two night receivers and two day receivers........there is plenty of work for all............there is no way possible that one full time person and a part timer can do it all.....simply no way.....so like I said above this info we are being fed is either made up or intentional misdirection.....................oh yea , those who think receving has little work to do are either lying , don't work in rec. , or are not the ones doing all the work......
