Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Change

I have 30 years with the company and read through this site now and then for pure entertainment. Most of you just need to get over it . You act like the company owes you something other than the paycheck to cash every two weeks. All of the changes that are coming down are good for business as the retail environment has changed . Does anyone remember waiting in line to rent movies at blockbuster? Most “old timers” are stuck in their ways and refuse to change and to be honest just need to go away and take their negative attitudes with them. If you weren’t smart enough to invest in yourself that’s on you.

Stock went up ten dollars this past week and my 401k is up 24% this year.

Looking forward to the next cuts

It exists. Market wide back pay has been given and hourly rates adjusted.

You aren’t doing your due dilligence.

I would like to know where on the Wire it says “ if you are displaced and put in a different position

even if a lower pay grade, you keep your current rate of pay.” All who read this site would be interested .

Wishing all a very Happy Thanksgiving.

So your saying that you want your position eliminated.... You said "I have 30 years with the company"! You are then one of the " old timers, with negative attitude". You are the one who has obviously not invested in themselves, as you are either ignorant or self loathing.

All displaced associates maintain their pay no matter what job they accept. It’s clearly posted on the wire. If your GM and Market Manager tell you it doesn’t find that policy on the pay plan and ask if you need to escalate to ethics hotline.

Audit team associates who took jobs at the door got back pay and hourly wages back to their old pay level on Audit after taking it higher using the policy on the wire. It’s great to be making $21 an hour to sit on a stool all shift. They surely will change this now but it’s still up on the wire. If you are Cash office you need to fight for what is yours now!!

depending on the market a person cleaning toilets could easily be making 45k after 30 years.....when people in the midwest were making hourly rates in the low teens people in clubs in california were making hourly rates in the twenties.....a fiend of mine worked in a san francisco club and at the time hourlies with short time with the company were making mid twenties when we were making low teens.....depends on the market .....so a person in san fran could make 45k after 30 years no problem......

I agree with the other person you should never work off the clock. If this is how your club operates than that’s a problem. If management knew of this and condoned this then you and your work family, could have a good case for a lawsuit, time for repayment. Managers take advantage of us and they need to be held accountable.

You’re right i should have been fired for working off the clock. But i took pride in my office and did what it took to get it done. But that’s my entire club not just me. And was my decision to do. But I had the respect of my Work family. We all made sacrifices. We loved what we did. You obviously never worked accounting or you’d understand. Sometimes you run out of time on a Friday night. Can’t just leave it for the next person and you had to close down the office. So when getting stuck at the desk with an irate member over a charge or any number of situations it would put you over. Overtime in my building gets you coached regardless of the situation. So it’s easier to just back the time up. But maintenance is different - good for you. No pressure or thought really needed. Just push that broom and scrub a toilet til you’re done. If that’s what you want to do bravo. I have the right to be upset because accounting is what i wanted to do. And would have done it until I retired.

I’ve been following this site trying to see if anyone knows about when the severance package will show up. It’s amazing to see such cold hearted people on here. A little respect goes a long way. But that’s part of the problem. There isn’t respect for the individual anymore. Good luck to all. And to the sh-- starter. Gfy

I lost my team lead position in the cash office and took a cut in pay when I moved to MSS. Pay is determined by pay grades. you do not keep your pay even if your position is eliminated.

They wouldn't be getting rid of all these people if you got to keep your pay. If you take a lower paid job you lose that $. What is sad I have worked for the company for 25 years and never got a increase when they went to job levels. What my pay is at is from raises only. So they are going to take away my raises that I earned. Of course they knew that when making that move just like the new pto garbage.

Accounting does not keep the same rate of pay from what i was told. I tried several positions and i lost quite a bit and was told it was a rumor about the rate of pay.

Qk3F3Eu-2lhc. you are ABSOLUTELY WRONG. you obviously are not involved so shut up talking about something you know nothing of. stick to cleaning s—t off toilets. pay is based on the pay grade of the job not what you previously worked. idiot

People in accounting get to keep the same rate of pay if they move to another job despite the pay grade system. So all the financial rhetoric is not relevant. Again it’s a resistance to change and about entitlement. You’re talking about losing your office really? Working off the clock you should have been fired!

I am pretty sure folks losing their jobs are not playing a victim

Role , it’s never a warm and fuzzy feeling . As far as other open positions , I’m pretty sure has little to do with being beneath them as it’s more it regards to pay differential and a lack of open full time positions versus part time . A lot of long terms are getting older and are thinking more of a nest egg via retirement , the ever increasing cost of health , and everyday ways of paying bills to keep a roof over their heads , clothes on their back and food . It is a harsh fact as you age in the job market , it’s challenging , but not impossible to find employment to sustain The everyday personal financial . responsibilities . Unfortunately due to a dip in the market 9-10 yrs ago , it took a pretty good Chunk out of personal nest eggs , however good news is the market is going in the right direction , but does take a while to concur losses . Regarding business , yes any business if stock is not showing a growth to shareholders , then changes are inevitable in regards . One thing is constant for business is change to sustain and grow in the market , however the lack of compassion is a component that is missing , it’s the integrity that used to be . Very sad .

I feel for all that are going through this , I did as well , it’s difficult to say the least . My prayers for all afflected 🙏!!!

I never played victim first off. And i do feel sorry for anyone losing a job they love. I’m not heartless. I’m glad you are so happy in your role I hope it lasts. I worked hard to learn my job and have a respected Office. I worked off the clock through my breaks. And it is not beneath me to cashier but it’s not something i want to do. You wouldn’t have a manager loose their job and happily take a team lead position. I earned my pay i don’t want to loose it for a job that wastes my knowledge. That’s all that was available for me. So I’ll b--ch all i want. If you don’t like it. You can STFU and KSA

There are other positions you can try but a lot of people want to play the victim and aren’t willing to try another position. Call it what you want but I’m not going to feel sorry for someone who isn’t willing to do another job because you think it’s beneath you. You’ve been in a comfort zone for many years and your unwillingness to do a different job is pretty funny. Put on your Pity Party hat and eat big fat slice of STFU cake!

Remember people who are happy about others loosing their job is not worth a sentence. Don’t give them another thought this site is where we come to give communication to one another. Our company has left us all wondering what’s happening, and no communication what so ever. Please if you have nothing nice to say then take your non empathetic lines to Facebook where people know who you are. It’s no joke when someone looses their job after 30 years or even 5 years.

Happy To Help, you're an uninformed piece of crap. The eliminated associates are NOT being offered other positions in the club! I was told I had to search for open positions, apply for them, interview and be chosen - and they're all part time! Also, my club has the habit of choosing associates for positions PRIOR to posting them in the breakroom.

This company treats us like crap - look at how they robbed us of all of our accrued personal hours when they started PTO! They believe we are all replacable and there is no respect for the individual anymore.

I can't wait until YOU lose your job! Shove your mop handle up your a--!

Perhaps he's right. If he's not a troll then his position is secure in maint. The world will always need garbage ppl (claims) & someone to clean up crap (maint.). He is only smug because he thinks it's ppl getting what they deserve. I have my 401k & will not depend only on social security when the time comes. Still, it's a sad state of affairs these days. Go read the Target threads. It's not just Walmart. It's happening everywhere. Retail in general is changing. The big push is getting 50 & older out of the way. There's too many of us....baby boomers. The younger generation will no longer be able to survive & make a living working the jobs we did cos they will be gone. Unless they have an education (even that's not a sure thing) or a trade they'll work hand to mouth their whole life and most are not willing to any of that. As for the maintenance troll, go on, be righteous all you want. But remember, life is short. That smugness will fade eventually. Life will make sure of that.

The changes that are coming are good for business??? Hahaha you've cleaned up too much p--p and the smell has disoriented your mind. Everyone with a brain knows these changes are due to something happening when Roz was in charge and they're trying to clean it up. She made some huge mistakes money wise and these new dweebs think they are correcting it. Hang onto your clogged toilet seat a-hole, you'll get a great view of the company going right down to the sewer. But I agree with anothers comment, I doubt you really work for the company or you're really a big wig manager. Because nobody with some reality would see these changes as good moves.

Wow , not even Sam Walton would have made the statement you just did . Sam was 44 yrs old when the first Walmart opened in 1962 and he was 66 yrs old when He opened the first Sams . I met him when he was OLD , he was a very down to earth , intergraul and valued all associates , young and OLD . Here is one of his many quotes :

“Appreciate everything your associates do for the business. Nothing else can quite substitute for a few well-chosen, well-timed, sincere words of praise. They’re absolutely free and worth a fortune.” .

Funny , Your statement absolutely goes against everything the founder of the company you work for held as high value to success in business Sam Walton is rolling in his grave to that. Someday you will be OLD and will choke on your own words . I will say a prayer for you , cause you need all the prayers you can get .

I take it you have forgotten “Respect for the Individual”.

Respect starts with telling the truth. I worried for months if I’d have a job. No one would tell me anything. I knew it was coming. Didn’t know when or what would happen.

Finally after a long nine months of anxiety, depression, worry and dred....it happened. I received my phone call. They offered me one role as a take it or leave it. Nothing else was available full time. Nothing at the local Walmart’s or area Sam’s that was full time.

My 16 years with the company has come to the end. I understand change and growth. But what I can’t stand is the lack of care. There was only two of my management team that came to me and said sorry. The other ones just said well that’s the direction of the company.

I have stopped being helpful and they are now seeing what I bring to the table. The company is trading knowledge and care for the company for cheap labor and expendable people who don’t care.

Truthfully I’m happy to leave. It’s no longer a family oriented company and the morale has been utterly devastating for years now. Good luck to all.

scrubbing toilets for 30 yrs. now that’s funny. no education or ambition. if mopping floors makes you happy. as far as your 45k well in 16 yrs that’s my annual as an hourly. “clean up isle 3 bring a mop and bucket, it’s a nasty one”.

Ok where to start .

Yes I am comfortable making 45k a year to clean restrooms with a GREAT RETIREMENT in place and I guess “arrogant “ too lol

Wife was at a club that was closed down but she was rehired at another location. All of these associates will be offered other roles in the club but it’s somehow beneath them to accept those roles as they would be member facing and “folding clothes or working the door or god forbid stocking the floor and cashiering .

It’s a scientific fact that chimps excel at solving simple puzzles which is basically what the business office associates do by stacking bills in a machine.

Look forward to seeing you on the floor 😛

Obviously you're too comfortable in your position. Talk to the people who's clubs were closed down with 8 days notice. No compassion for people with families with bills. How many were living pay check to paycheck and 50 plus years old. Not so easy to get a new job. Let's see how you get over it when they cut you!

So you're not on the chopping block yet. Folding clothes, standing at the door, making too much money per hour. You will be cut sooner than you think. These people have a right to be concerned , they are anxious their way of life is at stake. When it's your turn let's see how your arrogant see feels.
