Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

How is it done?

Do they call you and ask you to leave immediately? Are you escorted out with security? Do they give you time to pack your stuff?

My manager called me (I work in another location) to tell that my job was being eliminated and that my services were no longer needed but that I could have access to company resources until 12/29 and emailed me a pdf containing a summary of my severance, so I guess it depends on your management.

This is a much better and more gentle way and I hope others have the same experience. I plan to go in at some point to say goodbye to my co-workers and pack up my desk, return my computer, etc...

Don't despair, as there are other jobs out there!

It really depends on the department if you are doing a job that is considered a security risk it’s immediate otherwise they usually give time to find another job within Verizon. Don’t panic everything will work out. I was rifd in May after20 years of service I had 8 weeks of vacation time that I never used because I never took time off. I regret that because I have an 8 year old son and put work first. This summer I was able to stay home with him and spend time. It was so worth it. Breathe everything will work out. Best of luck

Last October 2016 my boss called me at about 5 am at home to tell me my services were no longer needed and said I had till Dec 31th as my last employment date. He was very upset about it, said I could do as i wanted till then, I could do some hand off training but I never got around to it...

When I got Rif'd last year after being brought to the managers office at 8am he handed me a RIF packet and letter saying my services were no longer required. He followed me to my 4x6 corporate cube with a box and watched me gather my personal items and then followed me to the door. No time to gather any files off my computer as it was already taken out of the system by IT security. This, while all the other workers were watching. Very embarrassing but expected from that outfit.

It varies. The "official" FAQ states that you are expected to work during the notification period, but that your manager decide otherwise.

So in some cases you are escorted out, in others you can come and go as you wish, and I guess there may be cases where someone really wants you to do your work as normal (good luck with that!)

They call you and tell you that you can go home. I took the Friday off and came in Monday and was told to pack my desk and use the next few weeks to look for work, then came in on my last day to hand in my stuff.

Sorry if the question seems insensitive, I'm just panicking and trying to get some info.
