Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Curious

From what I've read, managers will lay off employees first thing in the morning. When will you know you are safe? Is there a usual time? I also read that managers and directors are getting laid off... so will managers be told after they lay people off that they are laid off and so forth? How does this work? I know some habe been through this before and I have not. I'm new at this so please help me understand how this works.

If it hasn't happened to you by noon Thursday, you're stuck there till the next unless you fix their sinking wagon and bail beforehand.

"Make sure you use up any Healthcare or dependent care accounts before your last day. They love to keep it."

Less of a win in Nov, but when I was RIFd in March, I had used up the entire year's amount, but had only contributed 2 and a bit months. Not huge, but in these situations you take wins where you can.

It will happen at the exact same time everywhere. 11am is the exact time it happened in my area. So if your manager is off that day and they come in on their day off, know that it is happening. You will get sent home for the reset of the day. If you are off that day and you are on the list you will get the call.

My manager called me around 6 in the morning. They will call you even if you are on vacation.

Good luck to you !

  • IF it happens, it will probably be a phone call or voicemail or text (Yes it happens) before noon. If you take a vacation/sick day, they will call your home, cell and your emergency number

  • They will repeatedly call until they talk to you LIVE

  • Most likely they will allow you the rest of the day off, but hang around and listen to find out who else got RIF'd on the floor(lol).

  • READ, READ and READ again everything HR sends you and please make the deadlines they put in documentation.

  • Be sure your contact information(home e-mail, Cell, Tel no ) is CORRECT.

  • Start cleaning out your desk of personal items, a little bit per day. Being RIF'd is embarrassing.

  • Bring ALL your past performence appraisals home (you will need list of accomplishments for your resume).

  • Download ALL your W2 statements and payroll statements to flash drive.

  • Start cleaning off your PC / Desktop of personal items, pictures, e-mails. (you will be locked out of network on last day employed )

  • Log tels and e-mails of your personal work friends.

  • Get a copy of ALL company contact numbers/e-mails , payroll, HR, Benefits,

** I cannot Stress enough what the previous poster said:

** BE SURE THEY HAVE YOUR HOME E-MAIL and Contact Number)(s) ON-FILE

** BE Sure You have Access to a Fax Machine

** IN fact Buy a Printer/Fax/Copier/Scanner - you will need it during job search and getting severance without delay.

Good Luck, it is not the end of the world but the job economy is not great now. Hold your head High ....There is NO CRYING during a RIF

In 2015 I worked for the west area and the entire org was wiped out up to the VP. My director was forced to call everyone with HR and cut them and after that he was cut as well. I was one of the lucky ones and was reassigned to HQ. But it was pretty brutal.

Make sure you have a non-vzw email address in your employee profile on vzweb so they can email information after you are gone. They will send you some legal paperwork (Severance Release Agreement) you have to sign (about 7 pages of legaleez) and fax back to HR to get your severance.

It's usually by 9/10 am then they send an email or have a conference call to let those remaining know that they are done.

In precious years HR will call you directly. My boss was let go as well as some other members of my team and HR called each one individually.

I got handed my papers first thing in the morning when I walked in the door and past the managers office on the way to my work area. I would say if you make it til Friday morning you may be okay.
