There is ongoing debate/ discussion among employees: some believe that if the merger is in fact blocked, it would mean less layoffs, others believe there would be more (to pay for the break up cost). What are your thoughts?

Mergers do create synergies in overlapping areas, as noted, and that will be true here. However, this particular merger will actually create additional jobs, too. Plans to create a data-centric marketing arm requires skillsets that make for high-paying jobs. Plans for video made for mobility creates incentives for NEW job opportunities at TW. And finally, there is no overlap in businesses at all, as there has been in every other AT&T merger to date. To the extent that TW does create additional revenue, it could even relieve the typical “cut to make earnings” we complain about on this board.
Seriously can all the trolls give it a damn rest? Every post is a sh1togram. It's a simple question...no need to call people fools, and question whether people are deaf or stupid...this is ridiculous. This is about people's livelihoods, your fellow coworkers..People that struggle just like you...children have more tact and decorum than 80% of the adults using this site.
It's funny... one of the biggest opponents to this mega merger is Al Franken... a Democrat. And just to be honest, when Comcast purchased NBC Universal, there were tons of concessions made in order for the deal to go through. Only problem is that Comcast never followed any of the agreements and has broken almost every agreed upon concession. AT&T has stated that never before has there been precedent concerning this type of merger... AT&T is talking about the Comcast deal! It's not Trump fools... It's one company having far too much control!
We do not live in Putin’s Russia and Trump cannot act like a dictator or he will be ousted. DOJ is over reaching here there is no legal precedence to block this merger. DOJ needs to be careful here and so does Trump.
Why is everyone surprised at Trump? He’s doing exactly what he said he would do. He is opposed to the acquisition. Are y’all deaf or just stupid?
There will be layoffs in overlapping areas. Things like IT, Finance, Legal, Human Resources are the ones that come to mind that are likely to be combined to some degree and then layoffs.

There will be massive layoffs either way. Yes there is a fee ATT would have to pay. Not sure how much, but i do know it's quite a bit of money if the merger fails.
Is there a break-up fee involved if the merger does not occur? If so, how much?
