Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

We're just all overhead at the whim of the execs

Verizon doesn't believe in training, so it's no big deal to rif the staff (no money invested). However, the reason for the rif in the first place is that you didn't train them. I'm in product development and asked PMs for their projects cost, schedule and performance metrics, and they had no idea what i was talking about. If they did, they would know everything is red (over budget, behind schedule and doesn't work). Then, they'd said they had to be agile, which is why there's no plan. Just because your agile doesn't mean you don't have a plan - it's just a shorter plan. The other thing I'll say is this - Verizon manages projects by headcount, not function, so when a project ends, they just RIF the team and leave them to the career site to try to find something before their last day. This is because the VPs hold the money, not the program offices. Charging time to your own VP is called overhead. SOOOOO... we're just all overhead at the whim of the execs.

Had to bump this up into a thread for hitting the nail on the head. Posted by @QRS47HJ-2mwn.

This is absolutely TRUE....My ex just got laid off in Texas and has been the company working so much overtime...which in all honesty Verizon would be in court if he would speakout. However, its always rif that they blame it on. When these VPs and such as living lavish lives as the true workers are out day in and day out working. S---s...but one day will be their turn...flush and down they go.

I think this will be the poorest holiday season for sales since Verizon was established. Time will tell, but I am not spending my bonus before the check clears this year for sure.

Really appropriate the repost and giving credit to the author. It all starts again in less than 12hrs.

That would be at least $10,700,000 after taxes, or $425,000 per pay period + perks. Not bad for driving a company in the ditch.
