Texas Promotes GM to DM who was not qualified

Texas promotes GM to DM who was not qualified today. GM brought into market by VP, store ranked near bottom of nation but she gets job over much more qualified candidates. We’re all sure that she took a low salary and that probably helped. Wonder how the investigation will go?

Qualifications/knowledge/ability - none of this is ever actually used for promotion. It's all about who has their nose further up the hiring managers a--, period. This is why pretty much anyone throughout the company with a title of director or higher is a complete buffoon.

Director Steven Keller is known for making moves like such. It’s all who you know and who’s booty you kiss.

The president over Texas, South Central, is a minority who doesn't even have a college degree. Don't we require a college degree for most entry level positions even these days?

Others with retail director experience and master's degrees, I.e. highly qualified, were passed over. She's clueless but keeps being promoted.

She plays the minority card whenever it suits her. Be sure to drop her a line: 9803358720

You complainers make me laugh. It has been a rigged game ever since the GTE merger. Anyone that would expect merit or an exceptional skillset to be factored into promotion decisions is delusional. The last time anything as trivial as ability came into the promotion process was in the last century.

From what I heard she helped to get previous dm out of the business. The director in Texas has been known for being shady to get what he wants. Just another day in Verizon for the rest of to know it's not how hard you work, it's how you play the game.

@6ND There won’t be an investigation. The VP obviously hand-picked this person. The director probably had little wiggle room to step on the VPs choice. I’m sure the other candidates were far more qualified to lead people and deliver good results, but this person obviously fit other “qualifications” that couldn’t be passed up. It’s a sad state that Verizon is in right now. But it’s not just Verizon. Take a look around.

At the store level, Verizon promotes the sales reps that overachieve, the people with " The numbers".

No other company promotes these people because in the real world these people will be making more money than their Managers. Why would they want to make less. Verizon has bumped up the upfront salaries of these people so of course they take the job. Very few have Management experience , retail management experience.or are true leaders of a team. They are ineffective , non communicative, micromanaging and not creative. Thus they become I punch in everyday who gives a sh-t attitude. I'm making money don't rock the boat. I'm not in control Amd my DM shows up once a week in his Mercedes and has very little to say. Lol

@tdc, you don't know that for sure. A lot of positions in the US are filled "with an eye toward diversity", in order to level the playing field. But people also get promoted based on merit, so don't misdirect your blame. Yes, sometimes the most qualified person merited the job, no matter what programs happen to be occurring. Just because it's not who you expected, it doesn't mean they didn't earn it.

Qualification is a funny thing. Based on how Verizon has hired DMs in the past, she may not be qualified. But Verizon is obviously doing this different nowadays. They want people who are fun, energetic and engaging, no matter how bad their performance might be. Don’t hate the player who plays the game perfectly... hate the game. When you can see the ship is sinking, don’t complain that it should be unsinkable... get on a damn life raft and save yourself. That being said, some directors and VPs promote people because their afraid of the represussions if they don’t. Again, probably time to get off a sinking ship.

Make sure you cry foul the next time you see a talented and deserving non white workers get passed over for promotions. Make sure you cry foul when offshore workers are abused in ways you'll never experience because of where you live. Its pretty clear that leadership is responsible for the miserable culture. But youre a coward who wont point your anger where it belongs. Nothing worse than a coward with a nasty mouth. Scurry along little mouse.

If all of you are such high performing leaders why does verizon fail at everything they do? Quit blaming minorities for you failure to ascend the corporate ladder and accept that maybe the other white people just dont like you very much? Im White and im tired of the white skin pity party about "the minorities" taking opportunities you think you deserve. People of all colors are being squeezed tight in this country so shut up already. Verizon does not promote or eliminate staff based on qualifications or merit PERIOD.

There is a big push internally to hire more women in leadership positions. That is the absolute truth, straight from my directors mouth. We don't have, allegedly, enough women in leadership positions so many under qualified candidates are being selected over better performing, higher qualified candidates. I've even seen it twice in the last few months.

All the minorities combined couldn't be less qualified than the queen of mediocrity and affirmative action, Marni W

Verizon is notorious for favoring minorities over more qualified candidates. I know of several times a white person was passed over for a less qualified minority. In a couple of cases, the white person was then asked to train the minority.
