Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

There's no substituting experience and expertise

If you look at LinkdIn, VZ is advertising for all sorts of management positions while at the same time sending experienced employees out the door. They’re courting young workers who will work for less. They do it because they can.

This is what's especially angers me. From the dollar signs blinking in their eyes, Verizon higher-ups can't see that there's no substituting experience and expertise. All of those cheaper managers will cost us dearly in the end. How many of their mistakes will we have to fix , mistakes that never would have happened with somebody who actually knew the process and how it works?

Verizon is saving a few dollars with this, but it will lose many more in the end.

The people running this company are clueless!

Management is the worst I have ever seen it in my 40 years of work experience.

And now let's just bring someone in from overseas to run us into the ground!

Come on!

You are exactly right! In the GL B2B they brought back an executive director that trashed the place when he had MI and his first act was to eliminate the data leadership and consolidate into one position. They replaced a well respected leader who was one of the greatest pure leaders I ever worked with and replaced with a younger and never proven person with only a couple years with the company. Talk about obvious age discrimination and this director was already sued previously just a few years ago. Just pathetic but the chickens will come back to roost.

Verizon doesn't believe in training, so it's no big deal to rif the staff (no money invested). However, the reason for the rif in the first place is that you didn't train them. I'm in product development and asked PMs for their projects cost, schedule and performance metrics, and they had no idea what i was talking about. If they did, they would know everything is red (over budget, behind schedule and doesn't work). Then, they'd said they had to be agile, which is why there's no plan. Just because your agile doesn't mean you don't have a plan - it's just a shorter plan. The other thing I'll say is this - Verizon manages projects by headcount, not function, so when a project ends, they just RIF the team and leave them to the career site to try to find something before their last day. This is because the VPs hold the money, not the program offices. Charging time to your own VP is called overhead. SOOOOO... we're just all overhead at the whim of the execs.

I'm 31 and feeling really depressed about being laid off. Was planning to have a baby 2 years ago and got laid off. Was planning for later this year and boom here I am again. But the job market is worse. I know I'm not the only person impacted but damn it hurts.

Verizon has been riffing all the older old time managers that worked in the field and knew how to do the job for years and replacing them with off the street people that know nothing about thr field, they just want yes men and women to be managers that why they hire alot of ex military as managers cus they are yes men,and some are so arrogant that they think that they are still in the service and that we are their soldiers.over 30years ive seen fellow employees take managment jobs and some moved to 2nd level ,all have been RIFFED at one point ,the last was a 2nd level that had 27 years and Verizon RIFFED this person like a bag of crap and replaced him with an acting manager ,that is really sad the you put in 20 some years as a manager and they replace you..to me looks like age discrmination...

Couldn’t of said it any better! I have never seen so much turnover experienced reps and SMS leaving the company left and right. In my district alone 6 reps and 3 SMs have left this month alone.
