Looking at the posts in this forum, I can see that there is absolutely ZERO job stability in this company. Is it only the seasoned employees who get fed by RIFs or do entry level college freshies get fed too?

The company is driven by the bottom line...As soon as you get to be what they call expensive, you are replaced by 2 or 3 others clawing their way in the door. As long as you know your time is limited and plan accordingly it can be a okay place to work...temporarily.
I was a 2016 hire and got rif. Grow your career somewhere else . This is not a tech company
@QQ6EIyb-2ixi A number of us were in your position. If you stay for the long-term, almost regardless of what you do, at some point you switch from being a bright young thing to "too expensive and too old-way" and then become at risk.
This is because of a major stress on cost, and not necessarily value for money. So yes, at that point you might be twice as good as a younger inexperienced person, but if you cost 50% more, it's the latter that counts!
They are paying you to learn. So any job is good. Take advantage of the tuition assistance and move on to something better if you don't like it or are stuck. Set career goals. Don't worry. You will always find something but you should have control. Not them.
College hire from 4-5 years ago and I absolutely love it here. It all depends where you are hired and what you are doing. I was a MTS 1 then and now I am a band 6 and I see all the lazy people get rif’d. If you have something unique to offer, they will take care of you
You also have to remember that the people that frequent this board also are the type of people to do it with resentment. They will cry about milennials and VZ yet do nothing to put themselves in a better position
Take the paycheck. Use the Tuition assistance. Keep your resume updated. Continuously look for something better. Remember it’s just a job and nothing more. Remember that nothing lasts forever.
You won’t get screwed.

Not sure about this last round of layoffs, but when I got rif'd in 2015 it was around 6000 people total. Verizon does rif's all the time; at least 2 times a year if not more.
16,000 people didn't lose their jobs. So many misinformed crybabies on this board. Most of the company didn't see any riffs this time around. 16,000 assumes 10% of the full workforce when we know only some select areas like IT and Oath were hit. Hardly saw anything around here. The company is transforming and people will continue to be let go, but the end product will be worth it for those who remain. And if we get riffed, we take the money and move on. I can see why the lazy and useless might be scared.
You will be safe for at least a year and a half, perhaps two. And the good news is that if you currently do not have a good comfort level with ladders, you will come 2019! That right there is a skill that you’ll have forever.
VZ has a great 401k, at least for now. I think the vesting period is still 3 years. My advise would be to accept the job, dump as much money as you can into the 401k and try to stay until you are vested. Then go to a job where you will be appreciated and have a chance of a long-term career.
Think about it about 16,000 people just lost their jobs yet they are hiring you. What kind of company gets rid of people with experience to hire someone with none. VZ and VZW are a poorly run company and management makes some really terrible decisions that affect lots of people but yes accept the offer and work here. Make some money while you can but it won't be for long in my opinion.
I agree with @sad. A lot of people have a long tenure. I was riffed after 32 years, which s---ed, but on the other hand I had a pretty good job for (most of the) 32 years. Quite a lot of people are happy until they are not, much like any other place. And yes, the feeling is that the place has gone down hill a lot, but I suspect that people feel that about almost every company ("When I joined it was ....." even though they probably complained at the time"). So while Lowell seems to have made a lot of poor decisions, Chuck Lee (GTE CEO) was an utter idiot, Ivan slashed management pensions etc. It hasn't been paradise for a long time!
Some groups are going through bigger upheavals than others, VzW in retail and places like Oath for example, but in other groups not all that different from other large companies that constantly pay attention to the bottom line and cost cutting.
Bear in mind the people that are happy with their jobs and love working for big red don't post here. It's just the salty people who have something to complain about. A very vocal minority
You are probably safe for a year or so. They will let you settle in before they start the abuse. I totally dissuaded my three children from even thinking about employment here after their college graduations, particularly my sons. Each got engineering degrees and earn good money elsewhere. You may wish to use them for the tuition program for a bit, but seriously if you are any good they don't deserve you.

I was a college hire in 2013 and got riffed this year, so unfortunently, no you’re not really any safer. Don’t know if this is true or not, but I heard some 2017 college hires who were only on the job for a few months got hit too.
