Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Over 1,800 people have put in their 2 weeks notice

My very good friend from HR has confirmed what I was thinking... she said over 1,800 have put in their 2 weeks notice and thats not counting all the people who are just going to quit without notice. I hope Verizon keeps those new hire trainers ready to go. Some stores are running with only 3-4 reps while other stores have become revolving doors. Make that 1,801 because I will submit my 2 week notice today my family means more than the stress from working at Verizon.

Possibly the commenters post was spell-corrected landline, wireline, something like that?

What has the airlines got to do with VZ?

I worked for airline 30 years in mgmt and I walked out at the end of Feb this year. No notice. Gatt rate for lump sum was the lowest it was going to be in at least a year and it proved out right . I put in for a rif three times in the last year and a half. There was no way they would give me one. There was no respect anymore from upper mgmt in my group. Zero. They lied to you every damn day. Looking back it was the best damn decision I could have made. It took about three months for the stress to leave my body. This company intentionally pits one group against the other poisoning the water. In network operations you need four to five different groups working in unison to build the network. Pushing ridiculous deadlines with ever shrinking staffing. They would point fingers when dates were missed creating tension between good workers. Hated this group of phoney b@$tards. Good riddance.

Sorry I put the cell phone question on the wrong thread. Please disregard.

We were just doing a little Christmas Shopping for a cell phone. My hubby was put out to pasture in 2015, but by some mathematical miracle he was eligible for retirement benefits. At the time he was able to purchase nice Motorola phones for a discount. When we called today the Verizon employee said that there were no specials for employees. We would pay the same price as the general public, there had been no employee special since 2016. Just checking to make sure that was correct information. I hope other layoff victims are doing OK. We miss the money and benefits, do not miss the Verizon IT life.

I put in my notice for early next year. I have 2 reps that hit windfall 9 times last year not even crack 2k in November and don't crack it again this month. I made 70k last year, 60k this year and probably 45k next year.

South Centeral Market sells Hums that way! Hum comes free when you buy any phone. Managers ask you to bundle it in with phones or a coaching portal can be documented. TMP is Free for the first month after 11.00 Bill credit from managers they never issue. Cheat your way through managers will support you because they get paid and then celebrate wins of shady reps every single day.

Is this number of 1800 company wide or just in your region?

Lowell wants a mass exodus? Water down the severance package just a little more. Most of my peers in Network are actively looking for other opportunities (predict lots of single days off or extended lunches in January). Some are even considering engineering their own layoff at this point. I’ve never seen morale (or union talk) this bad in my 21 years here. But hey, the stock ticked up this month.

I don't believe this. Why would someone leave before the new year?

I am also one of the thousands that put in notice this month. I am fed up with Verizon brainwashing employees to sell products that do not benefit the customer and most importantly do not make me money. I consider myself a tentured rep 6 years in the business, I was among winners circle winners in 2016. Verizon is changing their business practices and working seasoned reps out the business little by little. Last month I sold 210 boxes and brought in only 2400. Halfway through this month i am nearly showing a check. Verizon is attracting first time job seekers to work for them because they are ok with only making hrly, and weeding out veteran reps. I have a big load off my shoulders and have found a new job that values it’s employees, and pays their people for the results they produce.

I wonder what the 'normal' attrition is at the end of the year with people planning on retiring anyway?

The trainer here in the Carolinas is useless. She comes into the store, stays in the managers office, and leave. That is one departments that can use some cuts.

Well, Again most of these sh-t store managers are in their jobs not thru experience in leading people but by slamming and getting really unrealistic sales results ,that's how Verizon hires,I've never understood it, usually an organization doesn't promote leading sales people because they should make more than their manager in the real world!, this is were the micromanaging comes in because they don't want to sell anymore Also their laziness, they're upfront pay makes them that way, examples Solution Managers greeting at the door for 8 hours, store managers having 3 day weekend s at Christmas , solution managers not getting involved in the sale just constantly telling you what should be done then running in the back and hiding.I think one day the remaining staff in a store will riot .

I put in my 2 weeks my Manager said I’ll never find another job that pays well as good as Verizon and benefits as well as Verizon’s. Well looks like the Grass is greener on the other side found a better paying job that has a competitive comission structure, weekends off, and 100 percent paid insurance benefits! Been brainwashed by Verizon for way too long. Y’all just lost a presidents cabinet ranking rep!

I’m looking for another job. My management refuses to acknowledge how ridiculous our quotas and metrics have gotten. I got a coaching documented after doing a near perfect upgrade with lots of accessories for not pitching Hum harder. Just ridiculous. Nobody wants the Hum. Read reviews on the thing. It’s trash. We wouldn’t have to push it so hard if it was a good product.

Sounds like the strategy is working. Make people's lives more difficult so they quit and you don't have to pay severance. That'll go towards the 10B of savings.

Being this close, why wouldn’t you put in your 2 weeks after Jan 1st when your vacation time resets?

Do we know if severance pays out solely based on hourly or if it factors in target commission in some way?

I am one of the 1800 that put notice in this month! Enough is enough!! Not making any money and having to put up with being micromanaged to push worthless products down customers throats like TMP and HUM

Can you get a severance if you're in sales? I've been in sales for 5 years and not sure how the severance would work? Would my store need to close in order to get that?

Dont quit just play the game and hope to be laid off then you can get severance, unemployment and health insurance for up to a year after. They want you dumb people to quit its way cheaper than doing actual lay offs.
