Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Why again did we buy Yahoo?

https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2017/12/14/verizonss-oath-is-a-failure-waiting-to-happen.html

Timmy Armstrong's strategy to generate advertising revenue is "to build global brands people love, build global brand platforms partners love" and "build a global company talent loves."

Timmy believes that implementation of his "love" vision will increase user traffic from the current 1.2 billion to 2 billion, a 67 percent increase, in two years.

I suspect that Timmy is smoking some of those left-handed Luckys. Timmy and what's left of his AOL people, plus the remaining Yahoo employees, have failed miserably in the past few years to build platforms sufficiently attractive to generate enough advertising dollars to pay the bills and provide a return on investment.

1jta - what were the revenues of AOL and Yahoo prior to acquisition? Are they actually above what they were?

Revenue is not profit. So spending $500M per year on the NFL has to generate more than that in advertising on Oath. Good luck wit that.

Lets give Lowell a nice raise, after all he deserves it. What a forward looking person, just perfect for this cash cow.

To the person that said 'It's already generated $2 Billion (6%of total in the same period) in revenue..."....well it cost $9 billion to buy and is worthless now

@1jta

Well this is great news, that should be paying down the debt in no time!

Surprising that AoL and Yahoo would sell such golden geese! I guess they don't like raking in the billions all day long. So long chumps!

You know what..with these profits they don't need to cut the 10 billion in expenses either, and while we're at it, what the heck let's RAISE the dividend!I

You wanna get crazy? Let's get crazy!

Seriously though..

I hear that they are making the Verizon hipster guy grow a mullet to more closely align their image with the direction of their 90’s technology.

You claim you have a brain, but the NFL deal makes no sense? It’s all about eye balls. More eyeballs equals more money. The deal will give a larger number of people the ability to stream NFL content than previously via exclusive Verizon platforms. It’s no longer limited to Verizon customers, which is great for reach. More reach equals more eyes which means advertisers pay more for the ads to hit the eyeballs.

I was very skeptical about Oath, but they’re making the right moves to make the “idea” work. They will never reach google of Facebook ads revenue, but that’s not the actual goal. Lowell would be thrilled with 4-6 billion in profit each year.. which actually seems light based on Q over Q performance.

Cuz Marni and her sycophants had failed to do anything for the core businesses and they were desperate to get into a growth area. Trouble is that no successful companies were for sale.

So they bought 1990s dinosaurs (aol and yahoo).

Marni is gone. Guru is gone. Angiolet is protected by Lowell, but he’ll be gone too - but not before saddling Verizon with a $2.5b NFL deal that make no sense except for the NFL.

Bad leadership fosters bad decisions. And the little guys and gals take it in the shorts while Marni laments she didn’t do more to advance women. My list of her failures is more substantive, but I have a brain.
