Coming years?? Are you serious. The PT title will be gone before the end of next year. Yes it s—cks but this has been ATT plan when the temporary tile was created. They created it as disposable work force. Sorry so many good people are losing their jobs. I am

Management and I too see my future with this CO coming to an end.

sure some prem techs are going to be surplused in the coming years, but the position is not going anywhere. thats why will allow CST to be surplused to prem tech as a lateral move. prem techs will officially be working in the cable next contract. the goal is to have one tech that can do everything. you think CSTs want to do prem tech work ? they will be forced to, or retire. they are not needed. most PT already know how to find trouble in copper. why pay a CST when you can pay a PT much less and get the same results ?

Even retail workers got job protection, everyone in the company except Prem techs. That should let you know how much you are valued. Which is to say not at all.

They will lie and tell you not to worry to keep you working until they are done using you.

Prem techs in CA are doing MDU projects, when AT&T has fulfilled their obligations, they won't need those bodies anymore. = more mass layoffs

If you are a Prem tech or Prem tech manager your job WILL be gone soon, no question.

Absolutely agree with you 1pcs! The company was just waiting for the West to fold in line with the other districts. MAYBE in the end we may not have won a major victory with the contract. But did the West need to hand them the littlest of leverage we had over on a silver platter? I’m not a tech but it didn’t take a genius to see that not standing behind the techs was going to come back and bite us. Here we are, BARELY six month later and the company unleashed the plans they’be been working on for ten years. All these surpluses and layoffs are for the FIRST WEEK in the FIRST QUARTER. What does that mean for the rest of the 2018? They aren’t messing around. Open your eyes people. Stop looking at only your district. That small office closing a thousand miles away from yours is part of a 22 state plan. You should be concerned. That job protection clause you think is there to save you isn’t as great as you think it is. The company knows exactly what it’s doing. Thanks to those in the West who voted yes, they got exactly what they were waiting for. Less than six months. If you still can’t see what their plan is then you deserve to laid off or surplused.

The blame is on the union and you gullible members starting in the east and ending in the west. Every contract cycle the first district to come up due gives up everything for pennies including zero job security for the prem techs etc. and then the rest of the districts follow the same plan and the result is a weak contract for every state. The guys with boots on the ground have been telling all of you to vote no time and time again and here we are not even 6 months since the last district ratified another terrible contract and they layoffs begin en masse. Keep up this pattern and there won't be another contract. The first district up needs to unseat its president and sit someone that will lead not just that district but set an example of real blue collar leadership for the rest to follow.

Work won’t increase this is just the first wave. The layoffs will continue until they can move the cheaper DTV techs who kept their seniority over to Prem work. At least in California. Same for managers they make more than DTV managers so they are gone too

i doubt even with the layoffs work hours will increase. they will still probably balance the load in a way at least half the techs will be able to clock out at 8 hours. the days of heavy overtime are gone forever.

It really is a temporary position....also if you didn’t get cut look forward to 50+ hour work weeks again. Hit the button!

Thanks for that info on prem techs in California below. I thought their contract was the same... especially what with all the union did in fighting for them. I'm in a call center in California...our fate is on the line...no one is telling us anything. All managers pink slipped and they already offered a buyout last month...

California has already seen yards closed and Prem Techs laid off. There is no buyout/surplus for Prem techs under their contract in California you can be let go and that’s that.

For California---They must offer BUYOUT FIRST- -- then declare SURPLUS...NOT just arbitrarily say " lay off "....
