Gaslighting Older Employees?

Is anyone else hearing stories about gaslighting employees over 50 on their reviews so that VZ can cheat them out of raises and bonuses or scare them into not suing for age discrimination if they are RIF’d?

Several people over 50 in my group or who work with my group suddenly got bad reviews mid-year after years of good ones. More than a few then got laid-off in November.

The EEOC will represent individual or group claims within a six month period of the separation date at no cost to the employee/ex-employee. Reach out to the EEOC and let them know that there are multiple claims being filed in multiple cities within the US. Once verified, these can be combined into a single legal action. There is power in aggregates.

Bet all you want. When it comes down to money, the same people that cry about EISPs will also be the ones who go for the easy bucks. A lawsuit takes a lot of time and effort. Everyone wants someone to do it, but no one wants to put out the effort and risk getting nothing for their efforts, especially not this crowd.

@QHUtoGl-6laj: you assume that people who write on this board are not also pushing claims against the company. I'm betting many have.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY GOSH.....YES THIS HAPPENED TO ME ON THE WIRELESS SIDE. Humbly said, I was one of the top performers and then several accounts bailed/taken away to be given to younger less salaried employees and then got on a PIP program. In my 25+ years in wireless (worked for the other top carrier for over 10+ years) and NEVER EVEN CAME CLOSE to a PIP program. This company is SHT and treats their employees like sht and please do not ever think otherwise. I saw this when I was young in the organization and as I grew old, I got the EXACT BOOT as I saw anyone over 50 years old. Please do not think you won't be one of them because I would bet a lot of money you will be pushed out one way or another once you get to be 50 years old. This company brainwashes you to think no other company will give you the benefits you deserve. PLEASE know you are valuable and other companies would love to have you work for them. DO NOT STICK AROUND to find out. GET OUT while you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So skip the severance and sue the company if you have a case. Problem is most people like to complain but they will always take the money. And if you take the money then you have nothing to complain about because you sold out. And we all sell out because whether we like it or not, we all have a price.

I think the over-50 crowd is fast becoming an under-represented minority in the US workforce

I'm over 50 and was hit to make room for a "traditionally under represented minority" as well.

I’m over 50 and got hit in April. I was told my job was being eliminated to make room for a minority coming from XO who, it turns out, can’t do the job.

Same here (Nov.2015) Over 50. Job Position "eliminated" after giving a "excellent " presentation to Exec. VPs the day before . Job sent to Verizon Data Services - India. I heard thru the grapevine a certain High level Executive in Basking Ridge once said "there was no way an employee over 50 years old could possibly have kept up with technology and be productive at Verizon".

I was RIFd in November 2015 and the majority of those let go were over 40. (They always throw a couple of younger employees into the mix also to make it look like they are not targeting older folks.) I was also moved from one department to another one right before I was let go. This new department didn't need anyone extra. It was just a ploy to make the numbers look better when they RIFd. That's what I think anyway.....

That happened to me in November 2015. A below average review leading up to an elimination of my job. All other reviews were great for the past 20 years. Oh well, on to better things now.

VZ thinks that getting rid of people over 50 will magically turn them into Google without the need for leadership to actually having to do any work.

I would not be in the least bit surprised. After all, we are talking about a company that thinks creating yet another venue to live stream in-market NFL games was an ingenious coup.
