Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Just a thought

As we go through life we try to find blame as to why our lives are not what we want them to be. Blame yourself. You are the captain of your vessel, and if you fail to define your desired course in life, or act in ways that will bring you closer to your desired destination, well then you are not really acting as the captain of your ship, are you?

Yes the company, like many others, have taken actions that some would say is unjustified. These actions are not within your control. So why stew about them? Do your job to the best of your abilities or move on!

Look at the positives in your life to help pull you through whatever it is you are going through. Going through life with a negative outlook is just a waste of energy and time.

How about women and children first so you go to the life boats, and they are already filled with the ivory tower VP's. No room for the common man.

How about this for a thought. Picture this if you still work at Follett, you are standing on the railing at the stern and the Follett ship is pointed straight down. Like Jack you are just trying to be the last one that goes under. The ivory tower is still saying the Follett ship is unsinkable...until it is too late.

Follett is rearranging the chairs on the Titanic.

You can’t throw people on a ship at see with a huge hole in it and tell them they are the captain. Just thought - go screw yourself

Cannot steer a ship in a sea of indifference.

Can’t captain a vessel when Follett does not give the controls to do so.

Yes, we are the captains of our vessels, and it is our responsibility to sail our ships out of stormy seas. Leave Follett and go somewhere where you have balance, feel appreciated, and not encumbered with mistreatment and poor management. Complaints won't help because they don't care.

What zombie, non-nuanced view of how we live, work and interact!

In so far as leaving follett, everyone who was here 4 years ago should be long gone. As for what was taken from career employees, there is nothing but bitterness for follett, it's ownership, its directors and its management. They launched a campaign of abuse on long tenured workers so they could save a few pennies on severance. It was planned and it was animal.

I am out. I'm glad I'm out. I hope, everyday, that this company fails and simply fades into the past. It could be part of the vision of how things used to be.

Riding it out as long as I can. Like my job, hate this company. I, like the previous post, do my job, work my 40, and nothing more. Why should I? No raises in years, bonus impossible to reach, no incentive at all.

After the abuse that has happened I have taken control. I no longer work any overtime. I still do my job, but nothing extra for this company. I really don't care what happens to this company and I don't take Follett seriously.....it is just a job nothing more. My focus is now outside of work and really enjoying life now - should have done it sooner.

You don't "captain your ship" as a member of the American corporate workforce, Follett included nowadays. Nice paraphrase of self-help books you've got there. Give me a break.
