Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Does your severance include old sick pay and pto?

As I may be one of the ones in next layoff round, i am curious if acct team leads who took severance will receive the sick hours earned and banked as well as the old "personal time" in the package. This has always bothered me that ever since they switched to new pto they basically stole us long timers earned time. If not in package....CLASS ACTION TIME! 192 hours plus accrued personal time too many to allow them to keep!

If anyone knows how we can start a union, please share info. We need to act now, before it's too late.

They don't care about us, they only care about their deep pockets.

The morale is sh-- in every club everyone is on edge. Wait make sure you treat the members with kind courtesy and be thankful are you f---ing kidding me. Let’s work our a-- off to get them to January. I’m sorry we are eliminating your position you can have a part time carts.

We got paid out for our personal time when club closed. Was told our sick time was lost. However we all received more than we expected. We were paid our pto and personal in a lump sum separate from our severance. Do not use up your pto if possible - the payout helps make ends meet until you get your severance. Remember half of your severance is taken back as taxes

Use all your PTO then you can use your personal time. You will lose your sick but get what you can.

They snuck these buckets in advance to rob us from using in advance. Had they told us about these buckets we would have used them. They made it almost impossible to use now, especially if you are given a severance package. Once severance is given you can no longer use. So what this means if you are a long term partner, you need to use now.

You never would have gotten your old Personal or Sick time anyway. They never paid them out when you left, only vacation. PTO is the new vacation so it gets paid out for everyone. Personal and sick depends on the state but not many do.

When these stupid buckets went into effect is when the wheels were set in motion to begin layoffs so that these long term partners would lose their well earned hours. Sam's does not pay you for these hours, only your pto accumulated after these buckets went into effect. We, the most dedicated associates had the most to lose. My advice use everything you have in these buckets, because you will be robbed of these hours. Too many of our friends were wrongly robbed of what they had worked so hard for. This is what has become of this multi billion dollar company that does this to its most dedicated associates. Not what Mr. Walton would ever have envisioned or done.

Severance pay is calculated on a 12 week average. So make sure you start working your 40 hours per week and if you don’t make sure you use your PTO to bring your hours to 40 hours per week. For every year you work you will earn a week of severance. For example I have worked for Sam’s Club 25 years. I should earn 25 weeks of severance. You will loose your personal time as well as your sick time..... f$&?ing b---s---. Remember Sam’s club and walmart Karma is a b--ch and what goes around comes around. Ripping off your hard working dedicated associates who made you a successful company. But in reality you are doing us a favor good ridens can’t wait to walk out those doors. So tired of working holidays!

It depends on the state you live in. Some state require sick time to be paid out, most do not. I do not like

how they changed all the benefit hours. No matter how you phrase it , we got shafted. If you are full time you can’t use your sick time for your own illness. I will be one that will be losing my sick hours but also

my personal hours ( 320 hours ).

You can find on the Wire what your state includes in severance.

I was paid out my last week and PTO before I left on Friday. I'm under the understanding that sick and the old personal hours when the PTO changed will be lost. I've only been given a total that my severance pay will be and it comes out a bit more than I expected, but not enough to include those lost hours. I'm wondering if perhaps the old personal time may be included. But you do lose the sick time.

the sick and personal time were essentially stolen from us.....we earned it and then it was situated in such a way as to be nearly unattainable.........

I’m not so sure about that. Mine seems to include my sick time according to my calculations. I used my pto up and got more than i estimated. The difference seems to be the sick time.
