Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

CWA IS THE ANSWER!!!!!

Everyone knows Wireless Retail is struggling, BUT what about people’s hard work what they put in to get those so called SM’s, GM’s & DM’s & ... &... get paid their salaries? I know I might get bombarded with hatred A replies but “Sorry” folks one has to speak the Fk up!!! We ARE the Frontline workers & “YES” in Retail so if the other parties belonging to the mgmt is reading these comments & calling us hard workers “Fat Cats”( unless they r sheeples) etc they’re probably scared abt losing their jobs bcz lets be honest here. What “DO” they do?? Just “Oversee” us, find flaws in us, sit on their As & get paid?? Is that why we’re putting all that hard work to get “them” that “$100” ARD, unnecessary & harassing SMB leads with Business customers & so that they can share their Fake A* success stories with their GMs & then their DMs & so forth?? Why do we have to be those Robots who dance according to the mgmt’s tunes all the time & get “Coached” & or get written up for stupid “A” St?? Why can’t we be customer centric as well & address their “Actual” needs( BTW “HUM” isn’t for everyone) They enjoy their prime benefits while us working ourselves off? Then they want us to supposedly help us in “Their” duties: Stocking accessories up in the pegs(calling it “Teamwork”, Yeah “OKKKKK”) ah huh, showing up wayyy too early (With no OT btw) to help them do phones & inventory count?? What hppnd to RSS positions? Aah, u guys got rid of those right? Bcz that seems to be extra expense huh? Oh yeahhh?? So why not make us do all the work & We’re gonna give u guys the unachievable quotas so ya’ll just work as slaves like in a clothing store!! I mean look at AT&T Retail workers guys, one will never find a stressline on their foreheads like we all do!! We deal with all the troubleshooting, billing issues all that which I totally understand is part of our jobs as well, but don’t be “Crushing” us, we’re here for a reason, we’re here for making ourselves & the company money & yeah, if there r those so called, “Getting Paid to do nothing A SMs” in here just don’t post a reply as it might get “lengthened” for no reason. Now this whole “Salesforce”, this 4-1-1s & One DM messages, & we’re being told to openly engage in that, meaning “training” Verizon customers to do everything online so that they “Don’t” have to have people like us interacting face to face with the customers making cimmissions (extra expense in Verizon’s” terms) or might as well get Rid of us. Give such high A** quotas so at the end of the month, Mgmt can harass us for not being able to make it & find reasons to get rid of us all. Ain’t no provocateur like here like many folks may have said b4, I ain’t trying to be a leader of some Union or “CWA” or anything, just speaking the truth( I mean they even to trainings for one “NOT” to join the Union). I mean the greed has to END somewhere. This company makes Billions of Dollars a year, where else our paychecks get smaller & smaller!! Does that tell anyone in here smthng? They’re always scared of literally any CWA team member to come in & explain it all to us but some “Sheeples” try to push them away from the store & mgmt gets so scared that it’ll become nearly impossible to lay off people like us while the upper people cashing in & making them $$$$$, so just b aware people. Thats all I wanted to say, hear Wireline Workers, hear AT&T folks & look at “Miserable” us. Once again, SMs, upper mgmt folks here wud share their bitter comments here & its “Okay”! I’m not gonna be disrespecful! Bring it on, I know it’s comin’ Lol, its all a Big Joke anyways!! We all know it & they know it too!! Let’s all hope for the “Best” for ourselves & our families & DO the best! “Unions” is what BUILT this country folks! (Once again, not a provocateur)!!

Last time I heard they laid off SMs? I know CWA is fighting for a contract for them right now, they probably will get it soon too. They know what they’re doing & doing it for good. Just waiting & having patience is the virtue here. Idk why people have problems with the Unions & just believe that companies like AT&T/Verizon really care for their employees at least the frontline workers who DO their jobs. Management just knows how to coach people just to get them HUMs out & get their Fat Paychecks. My AT&T & My Verizon are two identical things to make customers do everything online but just pay us an hourly rate to do ALL the extra work which we’re really not supposed to do. Salesforce is another one of their secretive tactics to not pay commissions (that doesn’t work). Unionizing is the answer my friend!

AT&T Employee here...CWA is NOT the answer. They’ve bent over while ATT continues to RIF and give jobs to offshore vendors and moving stores/jobs to dealers.

It is baffling to me that the mentality now is that pro-union = laziness. “Verizon is paying you to do a job, so do the job and shut up,” is killing Wireless. The job I got hired to do and what I do now is substantially different: I sell more, I make less. Verizon is no longer a cash cow, and frontline employees who remain loyal and content with the current state of affairs better be willing to starve for their convictions because things will only get worse for you.

Verizon can’t hear you! Lowell hears only the distrust in your insincere whining! Repent and perhaps one day he will grant you his righteous RIF. One day soon.

Saying it like it is is not distrust. And to think we are surrounded by these people. Please Verizon get rid of them and let them pollute some other company.

"We Do Not Get Paid Enough to be doing other peoples’ jobs"

Your job is to do whatever the company wants you to do within your profession as long as they are paying you. Typical union laziness not wanting to do anything more than what they have been doing, even if they have the time to do it. That's the difference between union and management. That's why most union people I've met and worked with have this pissy undercurrent like someone is always trying to take advantage of them when in fact it is they who are trying to take advantage of the company that pays them. It is usually the untrustworthy who exhibit the most distrust.

Unionizing would be the way to go guys!! The way the company is doing shady things & screwing us over, its abt time we raise our voices & let it b heard. No OT, extra work, slaving ourselves, doing SM’s jobs & sacrificing our own personal times has to end somewhere. Bottom line is: We Do Not Get Paid Enough to be doing other peoples’ jobs. Glad to have seen someone having the courage to start this post.

The union is worthless for newer employees. All you do is pay the way for the older employees and union execs and then no one pays for you because we know what the future has in store for unions at Verizon.

Verizon hates the Union and wants to keep it out of Wireless because it creates too much red tape for them arbitrarily change things whenever they like. They make changes to titles and job responsibilities whenever they like. And it only changes to benefit the company. Never the employee. Now if wireless workers were protected by a Union contract these arbitrary changes wouldn’t fly. Employees wouldn’t need to perform tasks outside of their role because it would be spelled out in a contract. Solution specialist wouldn’t need to manage inventory because it’s not their job.... but without a contract all the things the RSS was doing is now their job. The company cut the RSS because there is no Union contract stating these reponsibilites can’t just be placed on someone else’s plate. More responsibility with less pay. (That’s the current model if you haven’t noticed). Wireless leadership also lies to employees and brainwashes them to think the Union can’t do anything for them and they just want their money. Not true. The company lies to you! I know because I did my research. Most of the wireless workers just believe what they are told (hence all of the uneducated replies on here against the Union by Wireless workers). The Union won’t protect you from layoffs but it will protect you from the greed and overwhelming amount of work we all need to do with less pay. It may even be able to negotiate a higher severance in the event of a layoff. Wireless should have Unionized a long time ago. It’s probably too late now.

Look, $hits not going to get any better. No one (and I mean NO ONE) within VZW upper corporate leadership gives 2 f$#ks about front-line employees (nor support employees, for that matter). We've seen that repeatedly for the last 3+ years with our consistent November/March layoff rounds.

Union bash all you want, but you know what? It's worth a shot. Why not organize? Seriously...what do you have to lose...really?

You anti-union a$$holes have just drunk WAY too much of that VZW Red Kool-aid. You also know NOTHING about the history of labor in the United States.

Go Google what unions have done for workers over the last 100 years. You might be surprised what came about.

I NEVER cared for the Union, and drank the kool aid about how bad VZ made them out to be. But recently, VZ has made it a dreadful sales environment. Forcing us to lie, cheat, and deceive customers. If you don't, you wont hit unrealistic quotas, and risk your job and are the subject of ridicule. Managers don't care how you get your numbers. Don't ask don't tell kind of fraud. You can no longer be a respectable, customer oriented Solution Specialist. If a Union can protect our dignity, I would sign up. Where's the dotted line?

As a former manager in a wireless location, we had several meeting and calls about why the union was not the right choice. I drank the kool-aid for a while and started to think about why we Strategically pick the words that we use when we talk to the employees. We had several trainings to make sure we said the right things to make the employees think it was their choice if they wanted to because we legally can’t tell them not to unionize. We had verbiage to tell them why they didn’t need to since we would take care of them. The company does not want anyone to join the union for one reason and one reason only, if you take a look it clearly states that “you are an at will and employee and can be let go at anytime for any reason”.

Unfortunately I had to be part of a few reps being let go and being caught off guard. They couldn’t do anything once the company decide to let you go. With the union you have someone fighting for you. This is what I find as the most important thing. I don’t care if I have to pay for the union dues. I would look at it like an insurance policy. The union is a business just like Verizon and the employees are the customers. They have need you to be employees to have the numbers to fight for what’s right and pay increases.

Think about how much more you are doing at your position and still paid the same amount. You may have been brain washed about the union but it’s time to say “what’s in it for me?” Without the frontline employees we don’t have a product to sell.

I work for another company that is union and manage the group. If they didn’t have a union, I wouldn’t have a job paying so well and know that they can’t close up the place leaving me without a job. Can you say the same thing for the managers and employees of wireless? It’s ok to love the company but also look out for yourself. Remember what happen to the employees that got let go without any warnings. “At will employee”

If you’re so passionate that a Union will help with your struggles, get the ball rolling. Union or not, you have to WORK for the best for you and your family as sitting around hoping for it will get you nowhere.

You sound just like the union. Must be an organizer? Just what we heard in Brooklyn, join the union, get job security. Just another one of their lies. Layoffs still happened and the union didn't stop them. But they sure still take their cut out of each paycheck.

Unions aren't perfect. There are definitely flaws. And having worked in Verizon retail with former AT&T employees, I can honestly say that they experienced a lot of stress there as well, just different stress. But I agree with you on 2 points... Number one, the company desperately wants you not to join the union so that should immediately make you start thinking Scott why you should want to because nothing they do is in the best interest of the worker. And number 2, anything has to be better than sitting around, stressing every year come November, waiting to be laid off.
